I'm going on a 6 month trip to OZ and NZ in January. Since I don't have that much money saved (and right now i have mono, which puts me out of work for a month) I am going to need to work while I am down there. I will have some money, so work is not of immediate imortance. Where should I get my working visa for, OZ or NZ? Are there any pros or cons to each? what do you guys think? I'm doing OZ first, so maybe work my way through NZ? Is there anyway to get a dual Work visa? does that exist? Thanks

You can simply get one for each.

Mono sucks, I had it this summer...just get plenty of sleep and you'll be fine! I kept working while I had it but went straight home and rested afterards...just relax and take it easy and you'll be better in no time.

I have tons of energy, my problem is my extremly sore throat, I can't swallow, talk, sleep, you name it.... being a waitress, that's not really a good thing. Who wants someone serving them food who sounds like she's about to keel over and die? Now I'm gonna have to borrow money from my parents..... didn't want to have to stoop so low.

I would prefer not to pay the $150-$200 bucks that each one would cost. I'm kind of one a huge budget.

if you go through SWAP, they have a south pacific working holiday visa that covers both Oz and Nzd for a year. they also help you get a bank account. I'm not sure how hard it is to get a bank account on your own over there. I'm still looking in to that one. Check with your local STA or check out their website.

I wish! for some reason, it's having adverse effects on me and I can't stop eating. Maybe it has something to do with having nothing to do all day and sitting in my house by myself? Can't wait to hit the beaches in OZ, I'll be the chubby one in the bikini lol

I lost so much weight with mono it was pretty damn scary. It often happens because mono will come paired with a throat infection like strep, which pretty much prevents any sort of unnecessary ingestion of, oh, just about anything. I actually had to be force force fed, and was so weak I had to be carted around in a wheelchair. Good times, good times...
Back to the topic at hand - that combined visa sounds good. I recall reading about it once before but could never find the link again. But if it does come down to choosing only one, foreigners can find more high-paying (i.e. skilled) jobs in New Zealand right now than in Australia, and your dollar will go further there... Also, with the Australian WHV, you can only work for one employer the entire duration of your visit, so you'd probably have to find work with a chain so you can still travel around and make money.

I'm in the same boat trying to decide whether to get a NZ visa as well as a Oz one..
In a way I should go as I probably wont get the chance to visit such a beautiful country again, but I'm more of a warm weather, beach and city person and not so much an outdoorsy person.
I'm planning on getting a 2 year Oz visa (with the harvest work extension) so I suppose I could visit & travel Nz and not work there.
