Ok, I finally booked it. I noticed the price go up about $50 from when I last checked - and the deadline to book the special was coming up - so I figured it was time to whip out the ol' plastic.
I'll be arriving in Sydney on the morning of November 8... I figure I'll spend a few nights there (too expensive to do much more than that) and get on the road north to Brisbane and be there by the 15th to hook up with my friends there, off to a wedding in Noosa the following weekend, then up the coast to Cairns... Back to Brisbane for me and my buddy's birthday on the 30th, then off to Auckland for the better part of a week before flying home.
All for about $1k on Air New Zealand (ex. San Francisco). Not bad for the Nov/Dec timeframe, I guess.

Awesome deal, Omi! Sounds like a great trip. I love Australia....I wish it were closer (but they are better off being as far from the U.S. is possible).

Ah, I'm just competing with other people on the site!
Actually, an Aussie buddy of mine is getting married to an American girl he met here, but they're having the wedding over in Queensland, so it made for an excellent excuse to take a leave of absence and go 'splorin.
LFoD - Ha! I wish they were closer, too. After seeing Mulholland Drive, I think we need more Naomi Wattses getting work in the states...

Ok, I've had to lay out a bit of an itinerary - perhaps some of us can squeeze in a meetup somewhere along the way?
Nov 8-14 - In & around Sydney
Nov 15-16 - Brisbane
Nov 17-20 - Noosa
Nov 21-25 - ????
Nov 26 - Brisbane (me & my mate's birthday bash if anyone wants to come)
Nov 27-30 - ??? (Byron Bay perhaps?)
Dec 1-6 - New Zealand via Auckland

Wow I missed this thread!!!!!!
Yeah I know, this year and next have been/will be incredible for me.
Omid, yeah, after this I just need Antarctica.
Wish I were there when you're going to be there. Friend's wedding....birthday...sounds like a lot of great partying!
Steph, awesome. Do you know any more about your plans now?

All I can say is.. DON'T STAY IN AUCKLAND!! Whatever else, just try to minimise time spent in JAFA land. Go up North, or to Coromandel, I reckon. Have fun!

Wow, now this is resurrecting an old thread.
I think I missed the advice about Auckland, but I immediately figured it out for myself and headed to the South Island post haste!

I have a friend going to Antarctica for a Study Abroad thing next winter. Uber-jealous.
You could just head to the Faulklands and swim
