I'm an Aussie (currently travelling in the UK) and have spent a fair bit of time in that area. I can answer your question in one word - hot. Summer in Australia is dec-feb, and you're gonna be in one of the hotter parts of the country. Days over 40C aren't unusual at that time of year. Having said that though, it can get damn cold at night in that area, even in the middle of summer. So be prepared with light clothing for the days (and SUNSCREEN, I cannot emphasise this enough!!!) but you'll want something warmer for those nights when it does get cold.
Hope this helps.
