Hey all,

ok so next year march/april time me and a few friends are heading to oz for a year on a working visa. Basiclaly we aanna travel about as much as possible. O so i got a few questions. We are just looking for good times including vast amounts of alcohol.

Ok... so
how much money is advisable to take as we will be working?
can you get casual job in bars (ive heard u need something)?
what is the best way to get about?
where to stay?
things we need to do (we arnt going to be doing the whole museum kinda things)?

Cheers or any help i will probley be adding more when i think of them. CHeers

well if ur after booze then u definately have chosen the right country!

well seeing as u'll be travelling with the pund id take over what the visa requirement is since u will be working. now as for working with bars you do need a certificate. im from new south wales and in my state you need an RSA to work in a bar. you can get one in sydney on george st just on top of the dymocks book store.. ask anyone on the street and they will tell u where the bookstre is, costs around 100AUD.
as for getting arund id punt on the bus, the journeys are long since its a big country but u can see alot more and the train is abit expensive so id go for the bus
now definate places to see for a good time are
1} Kings Cross in sydney.....sex drugs and rock n roll
2} Byron Bay NSW
3)Noosa QLD
4) tweed heads QLD/NSW border
5) Airlie beach in nrth QLD a must see
and there are plenty more if u wanna drink there is guaranteed a pub in every town and the cities are teaming with clubs, pubs and bars

I'm doing the same arriving the end of April, working, travelling and working again..

I'm taking about £3/4,000 which is enough to get set up, rent, deposit.. work for a bit. Then spend the rest on travelling, drinking and doing the mad things i wanna do!

The best way to get around ive heard is Greyhound buses, choose your route then get the best pass its dirt cheap!!

Have fun with the planning!!

I can't say for any other state but if you're in Melbourne, you should be able to find a casual position pretty quick...especially if you have work visa.

Check on work search sites:

www.seek.com.au
www.careerone.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au

Yeah I know they sound heavy but they will have heaps of part time / hospitality / temping positions. You can also get "The Age" newspaper on Wed & Sun and check out the job section.

If you want to hit the clubs - check out citysearch.com.au - nightlife section, there you will find all kinds of club nights and venues whatever your taste.

Hope this helps. You'll have an awesome trip!

cheers guys really appreciate it we are arriving on the 22nd of march so have a few beers chilled in Syndey,

as for the buses ive been reading you can buy tickets by so many 1000s of miles. Does that mean you can go from say Syndey - Cairns (3000ish) and stop off at various places on the way with no time/territory limit?

We are also thinking about getting a second hand car, nothing decided but its a thought kicking about. Are there any licence requirments, from a full british licence? etc

Is it true ou can buy beer and take it into bars and resturants also?

Thanks guys
