Default New Zealand in Sept/Oct/Nov

I am wondering about the weather in New Zealand in September, October and November. I know it's still sort of winter-y in Sept, but is it good kind of wintery? Like, cold but clear.. Or is it rainy and blah?

I am arriving in Auckland in September and am probably going to go to Christchurch to center myself, have a place to live for awhile, get a job, blah blah blah...
But I was thinking about doing the kiwi experience bus thing first.. So to get from Auckland to Christchurch. Should I wait until a better month though? Maybe October or November? I would like to meet people right away, but I don't want the bus trip to be less fun because the weather is too cold..

Thanks for any help!

Will you be solely in the South island or popping up to the north island as well?

Generally in those months its relatively good weather, nothing spectacular though, but not freezing.

As for the kiwi experience, where are you planning to go?

I'll probably spend most of my time on the south island, but I definatly want to get to the North Island a bit..
I am not sure which Kiwiexperience one, but I think it would be one that visits a bunch of places on north, goes to the south, and then ends up in christchurch.

Somebody told me that it rains a lot in September. True?

I went to New Zealand in October/November. There was really a mix of weather. Rain and wind some days, beautiful sunshine other days. It was quite unpredictable really, but suffice to say I had an amazing time regardless of the weather.

Talking of buses, I took a Magic Bus trip from Auckland to Christchurch (http://www.magicbus.co.nz/main/produ...m?productID=94 - the New Zealand Encounter) and I would very highly recommend it. The guides were really friendly and helpful, and it was quite laid back. Not sure what you're after really, but this one has more of a relaxed vibe than what I've heard about the Kiwi Experience. There were people of all ages on our trip, and they catered for everyone's needs. It was good value for money as well. The only downside is that it misses a few good spots, which we overcame by renting a car for a week and going out exploring. But they do offer "add-ons" to the main trip, so you can see more.
