Hi guys

Its been a few months since ive posted on these boards, so hiya and boy its great to be back

Just to recap I cancelled a trip of a lifetime due to illness a few months ago and in order to regain my confidence about backpacking I will soon be booking a mini-trip over to Thailand and Melbourne.. yey cant wait!!

I have decided upon about 2 weeks in Thailand as well as as just over 2 weeks living with friends in Melbourne over xmas and new year.

Ive just started reseraching things to do in Melbourne & the surrounding areas, can anybody recommend any must see attractions or day trips??? I'm into anything, nature, sports, culture, food etc

Cheers

If you're a Neighbours fan like me, go on the Ramsay Street tour!!! I'm SO doing that in November, I can't wait.

Other than that, I have no idea. My research into Australia has amounted to finding out about the Neighbours tour. And that's all.

Thailand and Melbourne from Manchester make for a mini-trip? I'm curious to see what a full trip is for you!

Welcome back.

I have friends to stay with in Melbourne,

I would love to do the whole of the country i was initially going to spend a whole year in Oz and do NZ as well but in the two weeks i have this time I dont want to squeeze too many locations into such a small space of time. I will probably be going back anyway once my medical problems subside

Yea I forgot about the Neighbours Tour haha, i've been a "Closet" fan for ages thats defo a must cheers

I'm also hopefully going to do a trip up Great Ocean road, and also take a day out to see the Penguins and Seals on the coast. As well as do the obvious thing of drinking, partying and shopping!
Any more suggestions would be great

I was going to spend a couple of days in Sydney enroute as its free but I'm not so sure now, I am 50% sure i will be going back do you reckon its worth doing this?
or am i trying to do too much in a short space of time?

I'd recommend going for a walk down Southbank. It's a restauraunt strip up against the Yarra River which leads past the Aquarium, some shops and eventually to the Casino. Lots of activity there on a friday or saturday night.

If your heading up the Great Ocean Road be sure to stop in Torquay for some excellent shopping (If you like surfie sort of gear) The big shops at the front are fairly expensive but there are some decent factory direct place behind them where bargains can always be found.

Finally check out The Espy, The Corner Hotel or The Hi-Fi Bar for some excellent live music

Good Luck
