On our trip in Tasmania, here is where we stayed (with comments, it's the good thing!):
- the YHA in Georgetown is in an old house. You can camp in the garden too, but you might awake because of the chooks nearby! The place is lovely and clean and Alice, the manager is very friendly. She'll give you lots of info on Georgetown, and other great places like Low Head, where you can jion a tour at dusk to watch the fairy penguins come ashore.
- the Derwent Bridge Hotel, near lake St Clair National Park, has rooms in barracks. It's spartan, there's no kitchen. Better try to get something inside the national park, like the double cabins for AU$55.
- Allport's in Hobart is a wonderful place. The only drawback is that it is a liitle bit out of CBD. But it's only 2 km. Otherwise, the staff is great. Jane, the owner is wonderful, you can actually talk with her. The house cat, Gorgeous, comes to welcome you as soon as you set foot in the common room. The kitchen is big and well equipped too. A good thing for people with a car : they have a parking lot, free.
Have a nice trip!
