We stayed in Cairns, QLD in Hostel 89. Well the start was good, they made no difficulty of us arriving late.
But first there was quite a big cockroach in the room, and the A/C required coins to work...
The problem came when we cancelled the reservation we had made for two days later. They didn't tell us their cancellation policy, and charged the room on my credit card anyway! The staff was rude after that, and the manager insulted me on the phone when I called to fix the problem. Besides, the hostel set up is not really nice and it's not even that cheap.
Stay in another hostel in Cairns, not this one, for your own sake!

I don´t get it. How do these guys get away with this kind of crap?

Studies have shown that most successful businesses pride themselves on customer service. Stanford University did a study on this and found that successful companies relied on repeat customers and their word of mouth advertising.

Now you get a business, like Hostel 89, jack´in up the backpacking community and through warnings (like this one) and word of mouth we can make a statement and beat them to submission where they´ll have no choice but to treat us with dignity and respect.

Backpackers have DEEP POCKETS and if crap hostels with staffs, like HOSTEL 89, want to be dissin...so be it! Let´s get it on!

Just thought I would mention the worst hostel that I encountered in Oz,
Not bad value at 15/night including a meal, but definatley budget
Captain Cook in Cairns,

Bathroom was horrible, everything was busted, the walls had paint peeling off. The floors where all sticky.

But it was cheap,
