Beijing and where in Asia?
I have posted about this before, but it has dropped off. I am going to Beijing in June for class and then have a week to do whatever I want, where ever i want
I can't find a good route map on an airline for china or asia, or cheap flights. I know it isn't as cheap as europe, but the prices i am finding for flights from Beijing to Japan, or to Thailand are outrageous...600. I am looking for a flight for like 200 roundtrip from beijing. Any hints? thanks cya...lilchappy |
Stay in China man! Head to the grasslands of inner mongolia or to the south in yunnan...China is full of crazy stuff to see. :)

Flights to Japan are cheaper from Tampa than Beijing
How about a train to Shanghai? Air fares may end up being cheaper later. Good luck! --Joey |
I guess what I really need to do is learn more about China. I couldn't tell you any geographical information about the country besides it is f-ing huge!
If you have been to China, list the top 10 things to see...whether it be city, monument, landscape, or whatever. cya...lilchappy |
I know from hong kong, you can do a r/t to bangkok usually for $200 or a little less. Emirates has a night flight, Cathay Pacific has flights as well but those vary in price a lot, timing is everything. To get to HK, you could try Dragon Air or China Air, there is also China Southern and China Eastern I believe for domestic China flights. Have you tried all of those? I thought Air Asia might be doing flights between China and BKK, not sure what cities...you might have to get creative, say fly Beijing to Shenzhen, Guangzhou or HK on one of the Chinese airlines and then take Air Asia or something else to BKK. Not sure if any of those will actually work....but good luck!

if you stay in china, i would recommend above all a small town called Yangshuo. its a backpackers mecca with tons of stuff to do and its all nestled in those famous gumdrop mountains and on the Li river.
i was in china for 4 months last year, and yangshuo was by far my favorite place i went (followed closely by the shaolin temple). check out my china tips on this thread: http://travelpunk.com/boards/showthread.php?t=14372 good luck. it kinda sucks that you only have a week. |
Although its expensive.... I would say go to Tokyo or Osaka in Japan. Japan was awesome...

China sounds like a lot of fun. I would try to see as much of the country as possible since it is very very very big.

thanks for the info guys. I am now thinking I might as well just stay in China the whole time. It would take me two days to take a train to HK from Beijing and then another 2 days roundtrip of flying. That just cuts out too much time for me.
I will keep you all posted and thanks for the great info. It is always great to hear from tpunks and their personal experiences |
Take that new train to Tibet! It's the highest rail in the world, goes 2500 miles from Beijing to Lhasa...and only costs about $100 USD!
Although, I think each leg takes 2 days, so that may not give you enough time... |
its a great Idea and I looked into it. that would only give me 2 days there though. I also heard that the seats are booked for all seats released. Right when they go on sale, they sell out
