! You are correct! At least 3 of the 4. Just curious, did you know that or did you google/yahoo that?
Gene Hackman was the Marine. He met
Dustin Hoffman at the Pasadena Playhouse in California, and according to legend, both of them were voted most likely to NOT succeed in the business.
Hackman later left, back to New York, and got married. While constantly knocking on the doors of casting directors in pursuit of finding work, he met
Robert Duvall and Robert Redford.
Later,
Dustin Hoffman flies out to New York and while searching for work too, he sleep on
Hackmans kitchen floor.
All four of these guys became friends and searched for work.
Despite little bit parts here and there,
Robert Redford was first to breakout with the very successful Broadway play.
In time all four of these actors have won Academy Awards.
Gene Hackman- Best Actor- "The French Connection" '71, Best Supporting Actor "Unforgiven" '72. (nominated 5 times)
Dustin Hoffman- Best Actor- "Kramer vs. Kramer" '79, Best Actor "Rainman" '88. (nominated 7 times)
Robert Duvall- Best Actor- "Tender Mercies" '83. (nominated 6 times)
Robert Redford- Best Director- "Ordinary People" '80, Honorary Award Actor, "For director, producer, creator of Sundance, inspiration to independent and innovative filmmakers everywhere" '2001
These guys still continue to give solid work and contributions to the industry and their work will touch and inspire hundreds of millions of people for years and years to come.
Again, it was no secret that these guys are where they are today. They shared the same goals, motivated each other constantly (I'm sure), and held each other accountable.
Whatever success you seek, it is important to be around people that have similar goals. The comraderie is priceless. Stay focused and take action on whatever goals you set out to achieve
