Shout out to all the great TPunks!
Hey everyone, i wanted to give a shout out to everyone on TPunk i really do love you all
I dont post all that often but i do read basically all the messages and log in at least once a day!
After having my first TPunk meetups i have been inspired, i have wanted to do an OE for as long as i can remember but me being sensible decided to get my degree out of the way first...
So i wasn't gunna finish my degree for ages and ages (try june 09?) so now with my heart screaming at me to get the degree over and done with i am gunna do an extra paper this semester (it will make it full time study, with a full time job ) and a juggle round in the order of my papers i will finish my degree in November next year (2008)!!! So 7 months earlier than i originally thought possible! And i believe that will mean i have finished a 4 year degree in under 4 years, not bad for a part timer! (i do summer school, the only reason why its possible)
This should give me plenty of time to constantly research for my trip for a good few months before i head off o'seas (march 09 is my 21st and i think i wanna stay here for it, although i might not, will see how things go).
Anywho i didnt know where to post this so feel the need to move it if ya wish.
Basically i just wanted to say its all thanks to you awesome tpunks who have made me relook @ my life and get the heck out of my town in search of the world sooner than i would have! And to think its only 17 months till the degree is finished is a lot better than thinking more like 24 months or 2 years!! so just over a year n a half n u will be trying to ban me from posting all my questions!!

One of my favorite things about the Tpunk community is that there is a lot of inspiration and positivity. It's all about encouragement. There are no limits to what you can achieve if you set your mind to it!

awww... That's so great. I think we live in a world that is motivated by traditional success.. I love tpunkers because we are all travellers deep down and not content to let life pass us by...Don't worry 2009 will come faster then you ever realized! The trick to staying sane is to go on a little weekend trips. It will sustain you until you head off on your Big trip.

Wow - I was looking back at the threads I have started and came across this one, I don't even remember writing it!! But I still Luv ya all!!
Unfortunately I couldn't cope with the extra workload so finished that huge semester then took the summer of so I still won't be finishing my degree until June 2009 but its under a year away now and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Plus my hardest part of my degree is over with my exam on 7th Nov this year so I can start to relax a bit!!
Since I made that post I have ventured to the South Island - Christchurch twice and am heading to Dunedin for 6 days in 15 days! I have also done quiet a bit of extra travelling around the north island on the weekends and it has definately help me appreciate our beautiful country!! & I've also been on a 2 week trip to Oz!
I am planning on leaving my job and buggering off overseas May 2010 for at least a year but hoping more like 2 years - Only 20 months to go which seems like a long way off but I have already started to formulate some plans in my head which is keeping me incredibly excited - I don't know how i'll be when it comes to the time to go!!!
Now when are some more TPunkers coming to NZ?? Its been a long time since the last meetup!!

Jan 26th or so, I'll be in Auckland. Of course we already talked about that a bit. I'm pretty sure you're going to be obligated to go to the Midget race with me.

Life happens and its good that you still take the time to do some travel close to home. Most people don't even do that!
Stay focused! May 2010 is only 18 months away .

I have to say that TP has inspired me in what I'm going to do in life. Maybe it's because I joined when I was so young, but it definitely nurtured my tiny interest in travel to become this huge obsession. I don't think I could possibly live my life in one country at this point. I don't know how much of that is my personality (I get distracted with projects/jobs/etc. pretty easily as well) but TP has shown me that I can have that sort of spontaneity in something like where I live/what I do with my life/where I travel/etc.
BTW, any europeans who are willing to marry me? It seems like that's the only way I'll be able to legally reside in Europe. Unless I decide to live in Portugal for 10 years. Which isn't really something that fits into my "changing my life every 7 years or so" plan.

I was thinking about this thread the other day and wanted to bump it up. I've recently been using some other boards (not Travel-related don't worry) and they are nothing like this. There are cliques of insiders who ridicule newbies. They never quote people in an orderly fashion so you can barely get thru threads. No one ever searches anything so you have 3974379 threads on one topic (we get that a bit but not much here) and its just not a friendly place. And thats the complete opposite of here. And I just wanted to say that its the people I keep coming back to here, who always helped me before I knew what a hostel was or how to reserve a couchette. So thanks.

^ I totally agree. I've been on other boards (non-travel related) before where the people are nice, but not nearly as nice as Tpunk. I've also been on boards where the people are horrible to new people (or even people that have been around for a while) like mbo108 pointed out. One of the things I hate the most about the internet is the anonymous cyber bullying that occurs on message boards and even in comment threads on youtube videos. You have these 14 year old kids hiding behind their computers trying to flex their internet muscles! I'm so glad that Tpunk isn't like that at all.

I agree with you both. I hate nothing more than the cliques that form on boards. Especially on a racing board I am on, there are cliques, and if you're not apart of them, your opinion doesn't matter. It's pretty lame.
