I haven't seen the movie yet but I spent like 4 hours reading the blog and goodness. That's all I have to say. I was totally their with you, Brook. And even though I've never done anything longer than a month I knew exactly what you meant and it made me want to quit school and get out there. I can't describe exactly how it made me feell... just wow.

I just bought this and watched it. I think Brook did a good job capturing the emotions of backpacking. I found myself relating a lot to the parts about leaving people and how you're best mates for 2 or 3 days. I also like what he said about how "you can never really go back to [insert city here] because the same people that were with you there will not be there when you return"

anyway if any tpunk wants this movie I will send it to you. the only catch is that u gotta send it to another tpunk after you're done. =]

just finished watching it. i particularly liked the '5 qyestions' part and loved how they discussed the competitive nature (i.e. "oh, you haven't been? you really should, sooo less touristy, it's the authentic [insert destination here] experience" ) of travel.

overall it was an extremely well done production and covered a vast, vast array of subjects and locales. i wonder if there are any other films that cover backpacking from this level.

it's interesting the certain tones that each location lends to the film and how jaded (for lack of a better term) brook becomes as the journey progresses. having never traveled longer than a month or so at a time, i can't really relate, but found it pretty interesting.

i don't know if i'd buy this film, but i would certainly watch it again.

Okay, so here's a thread revival. I just watched the movie at Marc & Roxy's place. Wow! I think it nailed the experience of backpacking and the community among international travelers dead on. The positives and the negatives are all there.

Wonderful job, Brook. I'll be ordering my copy today. It will be great to pop in the DVD player when I need a "travel fix." I highly recommend this to all Tpunkers...

I'll check out the contest details, but I imagine it's expired by now...

^Did you get a chance to watch any of the reunion extras that are on there? When he gets back together with people he met along the way to screen the movie? That is kind of cool, to see what people are doing now and what they think looking back on the experience. Definately watch those if you haven't already.

So I just noticed at the amapforsaturday.com site that Brook is on an extended trip to Africa. I had noticed that was the continent that he never went to in the movie, I guess it was just lack of time and not lack of interest! Here's hoping we see A Map For Saturday II one of these days. His africa blog is here:

oh my god i just read this whole thread (i missed it the first time)...Thanks for all your reviews. I got a little emotional too on the youtube clip. I think i will def buy it for myself. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. If it's as good as you guys say I think I will show it to my friends and family so they understand what goes on in my head and the emotional impact travelling has on me.

hey again...
just got back from Africa a couple days ago (don't tell my mom, i'm surprising her tomorrow). wanted to say 'hi' again and thanks for all the nice comments.
Plan is to lock myself in a room for a couple months and edit what i shot in Africa the last few months...will be very different than Saturday (this time its all about the locals instead of the travelers) but hopefully will still appeal to the crowd who has embraced Map.
if anyone happens to be in the Vancouver area, i'll be out there for a screening of Saturday at the end of August. Tell your friends.
hope everyone is having a good summer (or winter, as the case may be)

I think it's time TPunk earned a link on the Saturday web page after the amount of purchases we've all made.
