I want to make a very efficient trip to Morocco on my way to other places. I'm flying into London and I guess I can hop down to Almeria and get on a boat to Tangier, right? So what would be the most efficent (and cheap) way to do this, and get to Marrakech and back into Europe? How long do you think I should stay there?

Hi LittleMiss! I travelled from Sevilla in Spain to Algeciras and then caught a ferry to Tangier to enter Morocco. Be aware that Tangier is really seedy, busy and many people hassle you once you get off the ferry.

If you are looking to go straight from London to Marrakech I would look to see if you can get a cheap flight to Casablanca, the biggest city with an International airport (this is what a British guy I met did) and from there catch a train to Marrakech. I guess this option doesn't apply if you're wanting to see some of Spain on your way down South.

It's hard to advise on how much time to spend in Marrakech. Im guessing maybe 4 days. If you have time I would definitely recommend doing some hiking in the Atlas Mountains and/or going to Erg Chebbi dunes near the Sahara - my personal favourites of the country.

If you want to know more about logistics or sights, simply ask

I asked a friend a mine who spent 6 weeks in Morroco/Spain, and he also thinks to fly from London direct to Casablanca and take the train to Marrakech is the best option. It is better to avoid Tangier for the reasons urOZ08 listed.

Coming from or out to Spain by boat : Algesiras-Ceuta (22 euro) or Malaga-Melilla (26 euro). The last one is a nice 6-hour ride on the Mediterranean Sea. Other options are possible.

Fes is an interesting city for its architecture and ambiance. The Atlas is a no-miss as well, by bus and sometimes by truck !

My friend says to find a travel mate. It was difficult enough for him alone, in labyrinth-like cities, harrassed all the time, he can't imagine a female alone in there.

I booked a direct flight from London to Marrakech on AtlasBlue. I'll be leaving the morning after I arrive. Looks like someone's having another slumber party in the airport! The hunting-down of a travel buddy is all part of the adventure, innit? I was going to meet up in London with my ex but he dilly-dallied (sp?) on the synchronization so I said "fuck it, I'm going without you". This time next week I will be eating cous cous. Mmmm.

Sounds awesome. I travelled with some guys, which made life a bit easier, I think. You've got an entire flight (plus the pre-flight waiting period) to hook up with some travel buddies, so that'll be plenty of time! Ahhh, couscous. We went at Eid and had the whole amazing sheep feast thing. Enjoy!
