AfricaWilderness with a capital W ! Paradise like landscapes, the Kilimandjaro and the Nile, huts and victorian architecture. Africa is a crossroads of civilizations, the land before time.
So, I may very well be heading to The Gambia for about two weeks over Christmas vacation. Anybody ever been there? Or to Sengal? I'm going with a friend who has lived there most of her life.
Anybody know anything about it?
What are the cost ratios? (CAD) Is it expensive?
I know the flights are VERY expensive, anyone have any tips?
What should I expect?

Wow...a blast from the past, eh Columbia? Great to hear from you and see you blazing new frontiers!
I'd say read some books (I read quite a few travel memoirs/logs on Africa before my trip), bone up on the obvious Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Let's Go type books, and then see of you can do some internet surfing and find other "I've been there" travel accounts.
As for tickets, it'll probably be cheapest flying through Europe...maybe even on two separate tickets. Find your cheapest ticket to Europe and your cheapest ticket from Europe to Gambia. Might be cheaper than one actually priced out as a Canada to Africa.
