Ok, this probably sounds like a silly question, but for a Canadian like me, who's dope buying consists of finding an empty bathroom in my highschool to score a har, the concept of Amsterdam's "coffee-houses" seems so crazy. I've spent many hours imagining what it would be like to chill and get tickled "legally". So, to all of you who have been to Amsterdam, could you describe what the "coffe-shops" are like?
Thanks,
Dorian

They are not too different to what you would think of a normal coffee shop being. With the exception of the "bud bar". There are normaly 2 bars in the shops. 1 being the coffee bar, and the other is the bud bar. You just ask for a menu and you are all set. Most of the time they will have bongs and such for you (mainly in the tourist areas).. They are pretty cool....
Have Fun!

Actually, there's coffee shops in Vancouver (like near Cambie) - you just have to BYOW cuz they can't sell it there (as opposed to A-dam).

some are dives, some are more upscale. the one I went to most (de rokerij) was more like a regular alcohol bar that sold weed in the back...others are like tim hortons with a weed bar attached.

Can you get hash brownies in A-dam? I hate smoking of all sorts. I would be willing to eat happy brownies tho!
Anyone know?

You can buy hash brownies is Amsterdam. A good number of coffee shops sell "space" food products such as brownies, cakes, and bon-bons. Some places even sell space drinks such as tea and hot chocolate. I never felt anything from the space drinks but some of the space food items were pretty strong and some did nothing. Be careful though, since you don't know how much hash/weed is in the food or beverage.
One place to go for a strong space food product is the Blues Brothers coffee shop across from the Flying Pig that is near the train station.

I can't wait for my trip tp europe! I'm planning to have my grand finally in Amsterdam.
I'm looking forward to seeing the coffee shops. Seeing as I can't bring home some real good souveniers, my friends have asked me to bring them home the coffee shop menus instead. Do you think that that's going to be easy, or am I gonna have to try and scoop them up?

I had someone ask me to bring back a menu before I left...it didnt happen. some places have them chained to the counter, or have the menu on the wall. I was never given a menu to look at.
I'd imagine the people who own/work at the shops would get pretty pissed to see you trying that.
just get em some filters with a menu on them.

I was so spewing when the main chick I smoked with in A-dam brought back a menu to the hostel the night I was leaving. Wish I thought of that She said that they sometimes give their old menus away or sell their exisiting ones.
