Hey guys! I'm a chocolate freak! I love it, love it, love it! Especially for its aphrodisiac qualities! I went all the way to Geneva and Perugia just for the chocolate! So, where can I find the BEST HOT CHOCOLATE? I'm imagining a steaming thick, creamy, sumptuous, semi dark, semi milk, chocolate drink, but where to get it? I did not find it in all of my travel in W. Europe, but maybe I didn't look in the right places?

In Brazil people use to say that Switzerland has the best chocolate. Maybe you can find it there. If you don't find a hot chocolate...I'm sure you'll find a hot and delicious Swiss guy.

I don't remember the name of it, but there was one place in Florence that had the thick style of hot chocolate called chocolate africain. It was really good and only for true chocolate lovers. I've heard that Angelique in Paris is good too

Thanks rattay, if you figure out where's the place in florence do let me know! I'll be sure to check it out!
Is Angelique the name of a place in Paris (do you know what neighborhood), or, the type of hot chocolate?
Did you guys what that film, 'chocolate'? That's the type of hot chocolate I want to try!

Liberty's in London has a chocolate store and they had chocolate with pepper/chili powder in it. I don't remember if it was a bar or if it was cocoa. Here's a description from their website (doesn't look like they have online sales though, more's the pity):
Quote:
Craving for chocolate one day, our buying director couldn’t find a shop that sold a decent bar of chocolate near by, so she thought she’d create her own at the Carnaby Street entrance. Liberty now sells chocolate to suit nearly everybody’s taste – dairy-free, sugar-free, kosher, organic, Spanish chocolate with cheese, chilli’s dipped in chocolate for cooking, gluten-free and many others. For real extravagance and luxury try something from our Choccywoccydoodah (yes you read that correctly) selection. You’ll have to see it with your own eye’s to believe it!
|
If you haven't been there, the shop is very pretty and absolutely worth checking out if you are going to be in London any time soon. That goes for the whole store, not just the chocolate shop.

ok, this post is way out of date, but i just found this page:
http://www.ricksteves.com/news/archive/040...00chocolate.htm
the relevant part is at the bottom :
Quote:
"Try the hot chocolate in Paris to truly experience it the way it was meant to be. The best place is Angelina near the Louvre, across from the Tuileries on Rue de Rivoli. Order the Africain, a pot of liquid pleasure. We love Angelina so much that we named our cat after it."
|
reckon i'm going to have to go to all the places listed on that page. mmmm chocolate.
I love the idea of a 'chocolate crawl' (instead of a pub crawl) that they mention.
