Default New *favorite* TV Show!!

So the s/o and I were watching Tivo last night, and we decided to put on this show that I taped on a whim the night before. It's Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. We watched the Philippines (fertilized duck egg, grubs and raw worms!!), but Ecuador is next week.

We saw a quick shot of the Jamaa el Fna in Marrakesh, so we decided to look at the website to see what Andrew ate in Morocco. Hicham is Moroccan, so when we read the list (including sheep eyes etc.) he said, "that's not weird; that's delicious!!"

I love this show. I was talking to people at work about the duck. The other episode that was really cool was in Tokyo. This has me thinking about an around the world trip.

I grew up with relatives chow'n down on these. It is a delicacy here. But I was never able to stomach the thought of eating the bird myself.

However, I am older and more daring, so should I ever go back to the PI, "When in Rome...... "

I don't really like the guy... I can't seem to get into him. It's all about Tony Bourdain for me. Having bizarre foods showing on the same day is well...yeah...i am not a fan. I keep watching though just in case i start liking him...

I guess what turned me off to him was when he spit out the durian. C'mon man! Never ever spit out food. Swallow it at least!

I have Tivo, but have next to zero time and am just now reinvigorating my Wanderlust, so I keep our station set to Travel. I have Globetrekker subscribed! This bizarre foods thing just caught my eye, because I can't get into a lot of the travel shows that don't cater to bagladies like myself. I dunno about Bourdain - I'll check him out and let you know if I concur!! Have you noticed though that the Food Channel and the Travel Channel are pretty much the same?!

And I had a swallowing comment, but didn't have the heart to follow through...use your imagination.

Not swallowing is just plain ignorant.

Haven't had an opportunity to catch it yet. All things considered I'll try nearly anything once. A lot of what we eat on a regular basis could at one point (or even now) have been considered "weird" or "strange."

For that matter, if I had to think of some of the weirder stuff I've eaten over the years... wow. :D

So, a short list:

Sweetbreads (the thymus gland of veal. disappears within a few months of growth)
Boudon Noir (blood sausage. so good)
Oysters (many, many types)
Livers (chicken, foie gras, monkfish, calve's, I'll eat it)
Tripe (not a huge fan)
Pig trotters (delicious!!)

Most sashimi/sushi comes into this category... I prefer the weirder stuff like uni.

Be adventurous, don't just eat Mac & Cheese or burgers!

The strangest foods I tried were Japanese tastes:

Sea urchin.. which I didn't like.

Eel in a sushi roll... which I liked.

I see myself eating more japanese food.

eel is one of my favourite sushi foods.

i've never had blood sausage, though i was in a small town in france when
they were having a blood sausage festival. the self-proclaimed "king of the blood sausage" was cooking up two giant vats of blood. i've tried black pudding in ireland, which is basically just blood. it didn't taste too great (i prefer white pudding) but it's not as gross as people think. there are so many more disgusting sounding things out there that i want to try.

also, anyone ever visit newfoundland and try cod tongues? they're amazing!
