It's wonder like, they sell loads of Mexican food in the supermarkets. Old elpaso do kits for making all the stuff.

britian is so multi-cultral now you can pretty much get whatever whereever. From my home i can walk for 10mins in any direction and eat at a many different resturants, and its not even a big town.

We dont really have a national dish as it were, anyone can open a fish and chippy, hence most places actually suck. so dont let a bad one put you off trying it again somewhere new. I also dont get mushy peas?????

Roast dinner is pretty cool although if you eat it every sunday it is kinda boring. Best places to go are country pubs in the middle of nowhere, the kinda places that bake there own bread. other Pub food is ok but usually just something they throw in a microwave.

Also if you get a steak (and unless its a posh kinda place) order it done less than u like. ie Medium, order a Medium rare. Places never get it right.

All in all theres nothing to worry about just us brits arnt so big on food i guess, just all experience, there are some awesome shady places and terrible posh places.

K i know this post is kind of old and Marks and Spencers Crips and the amazing rockies dont exactly qualify but i must say they're some of teh best things i have ever eaten!!!!!!

haha i always get my handmade crisps from marks they do a great sundried tomato and basil flavour in fact im pretty much a marks girl when it comes to food lately something my bank manager doesnt agree with

Ha ha I have this exact same conversation with my students whenever a new course begins. Though I admit English food may not sound good (blood pudding, kidney pie ect ect) it is very nice and I do like the roasts.

why do "tourists" call it blood pudding thats what makes it sound do unappetising if you just call it black pudding it sounds ok...its actually my favourite thing on a english fry up and up north we have black pudding barms mmm

well for me anyways black pudding does not sound too appealing either so I go by the origional name.

I can't say black pudding is in any way appealing to me, but to each their own!

English food really isn't so bad, and if you don't like it, you'll always find a restaurant that sells some other type of food!

Yeah, even here in Germany everyone thinks English food is terrible, even people who have never been to the UK.

The problem with pub food in britain now is in that most places (especially in the cities, maybe different in the country) dont serve proper home cooked food anymore.

This thread is great, im moving back to england in a few weeks, and wasnt looking forward to it at all, but there are some things to look forward to - you cant buy decent bacon here, so im desperate for a proper fry up!

I have had some great pub fare in some of the nicer pubs in more out of the way spots. I also love the Indian and Middle eastern food available. Much better than what I can get where I live in the states. I think a big problem in the UK is so many pubs are part of big chains now that the food just went to shit. Kind of like what happened in the U.S. Massive chain restaurants have taken over much of the dining landscape and its much harder to find individually owned restaurants where their is actually some uniqueness and individuality put into the food.

Because of England's multi cultural diversity we do have such a huge amount of various types of foods from indian, thai, chinese, pub, fish and chips, kebabs (not bad when your pissed as a newt, try not to touch them when I'm sober), Italian, french, spanish, portugeuse, to name but a few.....and yes the french still seem to think that all we eat is 'Roast Beefs' (my dad lives in france and some of the stories I hear) isnt that a term that has been used in the past to describe us brits? any way ramble ramble...I saw this prgramme the other day Jaime Oliver cooks in Italy I was amazed that alot of the Italians who Jaime cooked for wouldnt try and and I mean any thing new....he was trying to variate the usual sauces and stuff and they wernt having any of it.....I'd rather have the choice and opportunity to eat what ever I wanted to rather than be stuck with the same old pasta and tomato sauce....
