Carlsburg and Carling...but I'm not a judge of good beer! In fact, after Europe I couldn't drink beer, or even towards the end of the trip. Now, one year later I had my very first beer since then!! Mind you, I had to wait til I was good and drunk before I would even smell it, but it was a local, Fort Garry Pale Ale. I might have another soon!

What saddens me is how many places you go to in Europe and the hip beer to drink is Budweiser.*

i remember seeing the random out of place bars in belgium that had budweiser signs. they were always empty.

Yeah Duvel is good. Any beer with its own type of glass is bound to be decent.

^^ Do you drink beer based off what is cool/trendy vs. what is not? I guess for me, I drink what I like (sometimes what is on special)... Don't reallly care what other people think. Does that make me a beer unsnob?

yeah, i never drink a beer because of its trendiness, whats the point in that?? if it tastes good i drink it
im surprised id not replied to this thread yet! ive just spent the last 2 weeks drinking solidly, i think i had 2 alcohol free days! and ive got to say, i Love any german beer. i just dont get a hangover from it at all. no matter how much I drink. german purity laws are great!
to reply to someone who mentioned pils, thats a type of beer, first made in pilsen(sp) in czech republic. I think its just a style of making it. Kölsch here in cologne is a different type again, something about it being brewed in top-fermenting tanks - but i could have just made that up.
Warsteiner is one of my favourites, or Reissdorf Kölsch is good too. This is a cool city to live in for beer, as theres more than 30 breweries in the area. Apparently, if the brewery doesnt have a view of Cologne cathedral then its not allowed to be called kölsch!

Belgium has the worlds best beer hands down.
Brussels has the Delirium Cafe at which you can choose between over 2000 beers. 1000 of which are Belgian.
My favorite Belgian brewery is Cantillon. Located in Brussels just outside the city center.* for 6 euro you get a self guided tour at the end of which you get to try six of their delicious beers.
Other great beers include, Duvel, Orval, Westmalle, Rochfort, A'Chouffe, Fantome, Saison Dupont, and hundreds more.
Really, I can tell you everything you ever want to know about Belgian and American beer. Just say the word and my vaste knowledge will be yours

I read a beer ranking for the world once and the number one beer was delirium tremens from Belgium. Has anyone tried that?

Delirium Tremens is AWESOME! It's definitely not a volume-drinking beer, but a sipper.. A glass or two or three is good. Anything more than that and you're wasting good beer, IMHO. Shift gears to something lighter and just appreciate the DT for what it is.
Speaking of which... did you know that Delirium Tremens is the medical term for severe alcohol withdrawal? Hence the term DTs...
