OK guys I'll be asking loads of questions on these boards so I give some help on my home.
The is a Pub chain called Whetherspoons which has the cheapest drink and okish food (2 main meals for £5 )in the countr you'll find the same low prices in the centre of London.
It's where the old alcoholics will be at 11 am etc and young people will start off there at night.

Hehe, yeah Wetherspoons is everywhere. I love it. You can two good meals for 5 something pounds and they have a full fry up breakfast for 2.70. It was a staple when I lived there. Also had the cheapest mixed drinks in the city. Double vodka Rebull for 3 something if I remember right. A perfect liquoring up point before going out somewhere.

I did totally notice this "Two Meals for 7" deal. We don't have things like that here, well not that I've seen. It was kinda wierd but not bad!! I spent so much money on food there.
Mmm....bangers 'n mash and sticky toffee pudding I am in HEAVEN.

It's a great deal, but personally I'm not big on going to big chains if it can be avoided. If you're staying in Bayswater, where so many of the hostels are, the Redan pub on Queensway also offers the two-meals for £7 deal, and their food is pretty damn tasty!

Depending on where you go in the UK, you dont always have to go to WS! I went to uni in the west midlands where there are a load of independant brewers and their beer is usually dirt cheap (mind you there could be dirt in them!) and can be found in the local pubs.

forgive me if i'm wrong, but this chain seems like a british verison of the "t.g.i. friday's" and "chili's" we have here in the states. (minus of course all the goofy shit on the walls)

noke - you're pretty much right! Although they do have a few TGI Fridays in the UK now.
Support your local pub... or find a good student night for cheap drinks. Don't give money to the carbon copy chains!

TGI fridays is awesome, expensive but totally worth a blow out night. Gotta love their cocktails for getting loose.
As for spoons its good for cheap drinks and suprisingly they have quite a selection of lagers from around the world. The Meal deal "2 for £whatever" seems to change from place to place. But its lame microwave food. Im not a big fan of the breakfasts either totally worth finding a greasy cafe with some character. All in all though its fairly good if your on a budget and dont mind drunk old woman and youngsters on the piss. Best night at Spoons is a Tuesdays Steak Nights, cheap just order it a stage more underdone than you want cause they always without fail over cook steaks.
