Spending any time over seas you run into food that you just can not believe you just ate. What are a few of the things you put down that were either really good or really bad? An that once you found out what was really in what you just had you try scrape you throat clean...LOL

Here a few of mine:
Rabbit- France (It really does taste like Chicken)
Frog- France (Ditto)
Horse Steak- France (kind of like beef but not)
Charnene (Sp??)"Blood Soup"- Israel (I have no words for this) :thumbdown:
Easter Soup "Polish Style" base is vinigar- Chicago, IL U.S.A. (This is really Good!!)

I think I've tried all sorts of weird and wonderful shit without ever leaving the state, but what probably impressed me the most was the fabada in Spain. I don't even want to know what on earth that black sausage is made from or what all the fatty matter is, but it's soooo good.

If I am not mistaken it is Blood Sausage...You may have seen it eaten on Fear Factor un cooked. I have had that before, my grandmother makes it. I will check on it but I am almost positive it is blood sausage.

Octopus in Spain....just couldn't get into it; the texture was really weird and it was too chewy :thumbdown:

goat brain -- in some type of stew at a persian restaurant here in Seattle while I was waiting to get paid from the owner for the show I danced in that night. :rolleyes: Omi-- he definitely said goat brain, not sheep's brain. But he could have been confused, I guess. :)

I had a really unkind incident in China where i lost all possessions while stowing away on the train to Shaolin...heh...please dont try this at home...Anyways Enough about me...I ended up selling pirate cds with this homeless lady for a week.
She fed me 2 "CORN" flavored popsicles a day and when we parted paths she bought me this weird carbonated milk thing in a stonewear container. Her toothless goodbye smile is burned into my mind forever...
I cant bear to mention some of the other things i ate there, but the hunger/guilt/satisfaction of the corn flavored popsicle must not be missed; should you have the means get the ones with the animated corn on the cob guy on the package...there pretty much free!

I guess this thread is kind of old, but i didn't bring enough for lunch so I'm kinda hungry and keep looking at the food topics!

I ate this in my hometown cuz I wanted to eat something weird, and we had cold jellyfish tentacles at a Vietnamese restaurant. The sauce was quite tasty, but they didn't get chewed very well. We could literally pull one out of our mouths while the other half was practically already in your stomach. I think the sight of my sister laughing with while she was eating a bunch of them was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. ew!

I've also eaten octopus at a sushi restaurant, and everything else weird that i've tried isn't so weird these days, so that's about it.

Tako-yaki (sp?) in Japan...Octopus deep fried with some other shit...kept saying Japanese taco...so in honor of taco bell i ate it...not the same...however its fucking good tho

Yeah.. I think octopus is the weirdest thing I ate... I didnt like it... it doesnt taste bad, but the texture is soooo strange... like you're chewing an eraser.

Oh! I had cow's tongue once. My Mum swears it's delicious... but my brother and I couldnt bring ourseves to eat it... It just looked like, well... like you're eating a tongue!! :P

I love cultural differences! :D Like how I grew up eating octopus and sea cucumbers, corn, durian and red bean ice cream, pig intestines and cow tongue...blood sausage was common and I love frog legs :drool: , but I think I had guacamole for the first time this past year. Haha.

Anyway the strangest thing I've eaten was in the Phillipines: penoy, which is the less developed fetal duck egg (balut is the much more developed kind). It was kind of jiggly and had a little grey fetus thing with a wobbly eyeballish contraption. We ate it with salt.

Everything strange I´ve eaten I´ve done so in Canada...I´ve had
frog legs
blood pudding, which isn´t that bad but the thought of it grosses me out
squid
octopus
head cheese (cow brain)
rabbit
pigs feet (yuck!)
raw oysters (which isn´t that weird but they are disgusting)

I had a friend whose father would eat a cow tongue every Friday night, we´d always poke at it and thought it was disgusting.

Black/blood pudding is loverly! I'd eat it everyday for breckfast. The way to spot if you've got good stuff is if it starts to break apart when you cook it.

I had bbq'd squid in spain that was like that and was told that it was only like that because it was over or under cooked, the worst thing about it was that I was at someone else house and had to keep eating it.

I was in Croatia one easter, staying in an appartment owned by friends of myparents. anyway, they still had realtives there, who invited us for easter dinner. Easter tradition? fish. ok doesnt sound too bad. but all the time we had been there we had seen these wierd things hanging in all the shops, and it turns out it was dried fish! really didnt look appetizing and wasnt really looking forward to it. but in the end it wasnt too bad. a bit dry as you can imagine, and sticks in your throat a bit.

i also had a traditional Polish christmas dinner a couple of years ago as well. that was very wierd and i didnt enjoy it. it was cold fish and cold beetroot soup and other strange things. my sister loved it though. i was just grateful that it was a christmas eve dinner, and we still had a proper englsh roast dinner to come the next day!

When fishing for striped bass My father and I use live eels and I've never liked to reach in to a bucket or baitwell to grab one of them to put em on a hook.
Leave it to the Japanese to make me eat it.
I got the courage to eat eel in a sushi roll.. it was pretty good.

I've realized that if you like sushi, it makes it really easy to eat weird food! eel, octopus, and one time I just ordered a roll that I had no idea what was in it. I thought it was something crazy, but it ended up being gourd....not too exciting I suppose...

all this talk of what you guys called blood pudding...we call it black pudding over here....makes me want an English breakfast! I love black pudding especially with tomatoes and smoked bacon in two thick slices buttered white bread lol i think my cholestrol has raised by 2 points just thinkin about it!! They also have white pudding or as its called in Cornwall Hogs pudding, you usually see it on irish breakfasts mmm

Agh, I missed breakfast thismorning now I'm starved with the hunger talking about black and white pudding. Want a breakfast roll with sausages, rashers, black and white pud and some hash browns. Just as long as there's no chicken fetus in it.

I've eaten shark in Iceland (not that good) frogs in France that were delicious. Squid, also nice. Of course I ate lots of stuff in China including these sticks of meat that I REALLY hope genuinly were "beef" or "lamb"
Tounge is lovely especially in a sandwich. Also I love eating various animal organs-hearts, livers, kidneys yummy!!
