So. It was hard for me not to post in the 9/11 cuz im pretty sure my views would find controversy. So instead this important[i] topic.

In my travels I have touched central America, Europe, and Japan. Where has the fine dining, certified cuisine of Taco Bell been spotted by myself? Costa Rica. Nowhere else. This makes me think, is it an advertising aim at Latin America? Who has seen taco bells in other countries. Im fucking stoned and would like to know.

I would also like to add that im not happy about taco bell being other places, its exactly like kfc (same owners) and mcdonalds and subway and fucking starbucks being EVERYWHERE causing homogenization of cultures etc...

However. Taco Bell has some dank food, so I think if we're gonna pass off our wonderful culture (laf.) to others. Don't you think it should be the Bell?

Fuck globalization, but I can't say the same about the Chalupa

The first thing I saw in Costa Rica after taking the hostel van out of the airport and into San Jose proper was a Denny's. Followed by a Hampton Inn. I have to say, that was one of the most sinking, disappointing feelings I'd had in a while. Luckily, the rest of the country didn't seem to be as infested by our conglomerate culture, and that's how I wound up falling in love with it.

I should know better than to expect every destination to be pristine and free of the pock marks of a global market economy, but deep inside there's some idealist who just wants to hold his hears and go "lalalalalalalalala!"

Taco Bell tried to make it here in Oz, i think it lasted all of 2 weeks.

McDonalds is by far the most common restaurant i have seen on my travels through Europe, Mexico, and Central and South America. Although, they weren't very common in most parts of South America, which was nice.

we only have taco bell express and it sucks (Canada).
taco bell I had on the mainland tasted good but had me "running for the border" so to speak.

I don't really care about McD's, KFC or whatever in other countries (maybe because we've been invaded by US fast food for so long). I had the "American Breakfast" at McD's in Rome, it was like comfort food.

I have never noticed a Taco Bell anywhere else besides the U.S. KFC, McDonalds and Starbucks have been virtually everywhere I have ever gone. KFC and McD's in particular are even well off the beaten tourist track. It's actually an interesting point......you would think Taco Bell would do well internationally with the right marketing. I mean, they are no less shitty than McD's, BK and KFC. Oh well, I am sure there are already plans in the work.

BTW....speaking of international chains...how come Burger King uses a different name in Oz....Hungry Jacks? I assume this is just BK in disguise? Colors, signage, menu is all the same, but with different name. Is the Burger King name owned by someone else in Oz? Anyone know the story on this? Inquiring minds want to know.

Apparently when Burger King opened in Oz there was some small roadside burger joint already with the BK named trademarked. Then when that ran out and Burger King came out there was some big deal about the Aussie franchisee not wanting to change to the burger king name. There was a big court case and Hungry Jack's won so now we have both even though they're essentially the same thing.

Phew, that was tiring

AAH!!!! I hate it that we don't have Taco Bell here in Buenos Aires!!! I looooooove the chalupa...

Actually, the two places I love to eat at in the US we dont have them here.... Taco Bell and Dennys... I swear my family would order at Domino's Pizza and I would wait for them and then I'd eat at Taco Bell. That's how much i like it.

Oh! and another thing I thought was totally weird on our arrival but I would up loving are the hush browns (sp?) at Jack in the Box!!

Drop the chalupa... this way!!!

I've never seen a Taco Bell, I'm so going there when I get to the US, just to try it.

Also, while we're kind of on the topic of fast food, we had some American guys come and work at my company for a few weeks, and they said that in KFC in their town, you can get like an all-you-can-eat buffet type thing?! Is that true?! And mashed potato at KFC too! That's so weird.

^I've never heard of a KFC buffet either. I do not see how that would be feasible. You would have to charge $20 a head just to break even - people would chow DOWN. Unlimited mashed potatoes...can you imagine that? That is definately the best thing about KFC.

Yeah KFC, BK, McD, Subway and Starbucks are the only American fast food Ive seen abroad. Taco Bell would do such god business if it were transported to Europe. They have no Mexican food there, and even though TB isnt authentic Mexican, it would fill a void. I would totally go over and buy a Taco Bell restaraunt in London or Berlin.

definitly try it... it's a close second to jack in box. Lauren, do you have any other places you are planning to hit up food wise? Like something you've heard of and haven't eaten at?

In the midwest there were KFC buffets. Not sure how they were or how they operate though.
