The Love Parade sounds like great fun, too bad it is so close in date to the Running of the Bulls and so far away geographically.

running of the bulls has always seemed like a bizarre idea to me. I guess I wouldn't mind watching, but you'd have to be insane to participate. who in their right mind willingly trys to outrun a bunch of pissed off bulls.

If multiple people died each year, I would agree, but there are just few enough deaths that I can sanely particiapte. There are also just enough deaths that it retains some semblance of hardcore activity.

I've heard the only people who really die in the running are Americans who are drunk. Typical...whoo hoo US, we always manage to represent, don't we?

But of course, dahling. I know lots o folk from these parts that make the trek annually. I wouldn't mind going once to see what it's like but goddamn, the preparation and list of shit you have to bring is staggering.

If you're interested in solstice festivals, check out the midsummer night festivities in Lithuania and Latvia (since these were the last pagan countries of Europe, the traditions still permeate the culture to a large extent). Usually they last for three or four days around midsummer night (say June 20 - 24). Another added perk, in addition to the mayhem, we're also far enough north that you get a sense of the white nights, if you can't make it up to Finland/St. Petersburg.
We went to a dance festival in July and were out 'til about 1 am. Our son wandered around the house in a daze for a bit, and then said, "Mummy, it's nighttime." We realized we'd been here for a month, and he'd never seen darkness! Currently it's dark from about 11 pm til 3 am, which is a pain since our bedroom windows face east!
And there are awesome music festivals all summer long.
More details, see www.vilnius.lt and click on "events".
Iki!

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, no its not a festival for hairdressers!
Edinburgh Fringe
I love it, it gives Scotland a sense of european glory, and culture. Oh yeah and a multitude of parties to crash!!! woot! I bet more people die during the fringe than in Pamplona.
