It is time for the moon festival here in Taiwan and that seems to mean cooking outside on mini barbies and looking at the moon...woohoooo...good times!

i wish!!!!!!!
it is honestly like all the locals barbie together, then drink, then watch the moon.....that is about it......but to get most of the locals out is quite the experience since they seem to be a very private culture (moon smilie?)

Ahhh yes the moon cake.....plenty of those around.....my roommate has had several boxes given to him by his employer. Overall it was pretty fun. We met a lot of our neighbors and now they seem much more friendly. Good times!

Blah, I didn't get my moon cake!
Just FYI - there are various legends about the traditions surrounding "Zhong Chiu Jie," but it does roughly correspond to the Western harvest festivals and Autumnal Equinox (when the moon appears the biggest during the year). In other words - the beginning of Fall.

from what i have read, the moon cakes were used to convey a specific date for a peasent revolt. they wanted to get everyone to revolt at the same time for maximum effectivness so they baked paper messages into the cakes. how it got linked to the actual moon and time of year i have no clue, but hell it was a good time.
