Hey. I have a couple of quick questions about what type of semi-formal/club attire to bring with me on my 3 week tip to England, France, and Italy.
I want to try to get away with bringing only 1 pair of shoes (and a pair of flip flops). Ideally, I'd like to bring my comfortable grey Puma sneakers or Reebok cross trainers. However, I want to make sure these types of sneakers are appropriate for the "upscale" tourist attractions (e.g. St. Peter's, Westminster, etc.) and night clubs. Should I buy some kind of brown boot/sneaker that can double as dress shoe instead?
Also, I want to bring just 1 pair of pants that are suitable for casual touring and clubbing, but I'm not sure if I should go with dark, stylish DKNY jeans, khakis, or dressy (but comfortable) brown corduroys. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
-Rob

go for black boots not brown seeing as youre not spossed to wear brown after 5pm anyway. (at least thats what some ettiquette book i once read said)
There are alot of walking boots that look quite nice as evening shoes for guys.
In regards to pants it might be better to bring one for daytime and one pair for evenings out. Do you really want to be wearing the same pair of trousers for three weeks?
(and not to mention your stuffed if you rip them)
(by the way pants england refers to underwear and the locals start laughing when us forigners say pants)

Hi Rob,
In regards to the UK there are alot of the clubs that dont let people in with trainers, hats and jeans- so just in case id recommend gettin some shoes type thing n smartish trousers- they dont have to b fancy as long as they are not denim- hope that helps

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm gonna bring my brown banana republic corduroys. They can be both casual or semi-formal. Maybe I'll bring a pair of jeans, too, if I have room.
As for shoes, I'm still unsure. I guess I'll try to find something that's comfortable, but a little dressy.
Do you think something like this would be club acceptable?
Also, how do European clubs usually feel about leather sandals and khakis look like the one below? I'm sure I could get into a club in my area (NJ) with this attire but, again, I'm not quite sure about the standards in Europe.
Thanks again.

If you just want to bring one pair of shoes and flipflops, which is weight smart, make sure that the shoes are black, there are tons of black boots and walking shoes that are super comfy and will provide you with all the support you need for miles of walking, but still look understated and dressy on the outside.
In regards to clubbing attire, just go with black, grey or navy blue and you'll be safe. Dark colors is the way to go. Get a pair of those man's pants that are wrinkle free and save them for clubbing only. Also, save a wrinkle free fabric shirt for clubbing only too, this way you'll always have a clean cut outfit for going out. No sandals for clubbing man! Europeans are more into dressing up!
Have fun!

This is very true... people in the UK tend to dress up kind of smart casual to go out. They almost certainly won't let you in with dirty trainers, a hoody and jeans. You should be alright with trousers like the ones in the picture and dark shoes

What I'd do is research the clubs int he cities you plan on hitting (there are club guides ALL over the web) - most of them will list if there's a dress code and what it entails... For instance, in London, megaclubs and posh places usually have a no jeans/trainers policy, but it's often eschewed on certain nights, depending on who's promoting. The big clubs in Paris *never* make that exception, as it's a way to keep the "riff raff" out.
Also note that in some countries, bouncers are just as likely to keep you out for what race you are or or whether you're a tourist, not just how you're dressed or your gender - so try to roll in with some locals - that is, if you want to give your business to a place like that.
