The Spanish tourism agency has a motto (or did) "Spain is different". So what are you wanting to see?

Meaning you want hip urban locales? Barcelona and Madrid are good ones
Skiing? Sierra Nevada and Andorra (not really relevant at this time but still...)
Nice beaches? The entire Costa del Sol and Ibiza
Hemmingway's Spain? Granada, Seville etc

Where are you in Spain? If you only have four days I would stay near to wherever you are.

You can never go wrong with Barcelona for the four, doing the Madrid-Segovia-Toledo package, or a Granada-Sevilla combo either (<-would be slightly pressed on time). Spain is great, wherever you go it will rock

I had an incredible time in Barcelona . . . in fact I spent too many days there and never made it to Morocco If music and beaches are your thing, this is it. And if they're not your thing, well you'll still have a blast in Barcelona.

^I am looking forward to seeing Valencia next year (somehow I skipped that two years back). Any good hostel recommendations? Apparently my school partners with the University of Valencia so there is a good chance that when I have to take my proctored exams for my web class it will be there

If you want to escape to the UK, you can try out Gibraltar (easy day trip from Malaga)

hey I actually stayed with a friend in her apartment (she was living there for a year) but we did meet some guys when we were out who stayed at the indigo youth hostel. we went over there one night and it seemed like a pretty good place and they liked it (it was their second time staying there). it was a less than 10 minute walk from the train station which was pretty sweet. my friend is heading back to valencia soon to see some people so I will ask her where she ended up staying.

Valencia and Barcelona are awesome. Make sure you check out all the Gaudi stuff in BC, especially the Parc Guell and Sagrada Familia. Valencia has three amazing pieces of modern architecture all in a row, can't remember what they were called but I'm sure you'll find them. Just don't walk the streets of Valencia after dark by yourself, i know that from personal experience.

I personally found Madrid to be really boring. But that's just my opinion, others may vary.

I'm absolutely in love with Barcelona, but after my last trip, I think Sevilla warrants (a lot of) further investigation. That place just oozed atmosphere.

I stayed at a place called 'Home' it was pretty cool but I heard good things about the nest places as well.

There is an awesome little shot bar they take you to on the pub crawl there. Heaps of shots for 1,2 and 3 Euros.

Spain was one of my favorite places ever...there's so much variety there it's insane.

I think Barcelona is a must but give it enough time...I wound up there at 3 different times on my trip but I could have spent even more time there! I wasn't so impressed with Madrid. Sevilla and Granada are both amazing and are both home to my favorite chain of hostels---The Oasis Sevilla and Oasis Granada (if you venture to Portugal, go to Oasis Mansion in Lisbon...my favorite hostel EVER). Valencia was more of a relaxation point on my trip, although it can be high energy if you want it to be. San Sebastian was another one of my favorite places...GORGEOUS beach and fabulous little surf town. I stayed at Urban House and it was really good. Salamanca is a good university town...though don't stay at the HI hostel there...I wasn't impressed. I think I highlighted my favorites..let me know if you want to know anything else.

Never been to northern/western Spain though I read about it in a guidebook. It mentioned a lot of skiing in or around Andorra which looked interesting.

I love Spain!!!! It really depends on what you want to do. Spain varies greatly by region.

Spain is one of those must go places when I finally get to Europe. If I only got to Spain and Italy I think I would still be satisfied with my trip.

My destinations definitely include Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Barcelona, and Toledo.

For day trips in the Madrid area:
Segovia
Toledo

And I echo Florencia on Granada...love that city! Barcelona is cool, as well. And while you're there, duck on up to Andorra and add another country to your list...!

Add Salamanca and Avila too.

I just saw a special on a "city of culture" more like a convention center on a hilltop surrounding Santiago de Compostela that looked amazing. I am adding Galicia to my itinerary for 08.
