Week Long Summer/Winter Vacation? Where to go?
So last week, my pops put me in charge of planning our family trip coming up either in December of 2007 or 2008, or Aug of 2008. I need your guys ideas and I will throw out a couple I already have. Here are the details:
Dad, Mom, Sister and Husband, Me and a Date
4-6 Days
Cost: Not outrageous but not skimpy
Parents are not about roughing it.
Flight must be less than 15 hours from Chicago.
Lauguage barriers must be easy to deal with
Rather stay in a house/time share than a Hotel
Here are the location I have thought of so far:
Hawaii
Costa Rica
Dominican
Cruise to South America
Flordia Beach house
Winter house in Colorado
Let me know what you guys think, or would want to do. If anyone knows any good time share, or beach house websites, let me know.

Nice family project !
Is Europe out of question ? My parents spent 3 weeks in southern Spain during winter time, to run away from the cold. They rented an apartment and loved their stay!
p.s. I moved the thread into the "where do I go" forum.

Spain wouldn't be out of the question. But we only have about 5-7 days and that would waste two of the days traveling and 1 jet lagged. Southern Spain is a possibility. Chi to Spain is probably 8 hours, 9 hours?

Sounds about right and if you restrict yourselves to Andalucia I think 7 days is enough for a light trip. Something like...
Day 1 Arrive in Madrid - Train to Sevilla
Day 2 Sevilla
Day 3 bus/train to Gibraltar stay in La Linea (outside in Spain)
Day 4 Gibralatar bus/train to Granada
Day 5 Granada
Day 6 Granada->Madrid
Day 7 Madrid in the morning return
If they/you are in beach mode you can hit up Marbella or one of the nice coastal towns in lieu of Gibraltar.

Because you have such short time I personally would stay in North America. How about Whistler, BC? Some really nice private vacation homes that your family can rent. And it's awesome in both winter and summer.

Where to Next? Iceland!

They are saying the wait for a passport now is up too 12 weeks. I am nervous, I applied for mine almost 8 weeks ago and at the time they said I wouldn't have to rush it. If it takes 12 weeks I wont get it until 2 weeks before my trip.
I am glad too hear you two are all set with yours...I will just wait the initial 10 weeks they said before I start to worry too much.
