Giovanni's Home, Naples, Italy

Giovanni's Home is located in central Naples, within walking distance from pretty much everthing. It is not too far from a metro stop. The hostel is the entire third floor of an apartment building. I think it has the capacity for around 22 - 25 people. A key is used to get into the building, and then a buzzer to get into the apartment so security is tight (it should be in Naples). The rooms were clean and tidy, the bathrooms the same. There was a full kitchen available for use and Giovanni's will tell you where things are if asked.

Giovanni's himself is a chain-smoking, bald Italian man. He was ALWAYS there in my three days stay. He was also very helpful. After check in, he sits you down, gives you a map and explains all there is to see in and around the city. All the information proved useful, especially Sorbillo (the restaurant with the best pizza in the world). We were informed not to stay out after dark in Naples. It can be a rough town. After sightseeing in the day, perhaps the city, maybe Capri or Pompeii, everyone comes back to the hostel for dinner.

The best place in the hostel is the terrace. There are no views but it is large enough to accomidate the entire hostel for dinner. Giovanni is known for cooking for his guests. He cooked for everyone all three nights we were there, and fed me lunch on my arrival to the hostel. Wine and pasta or risotto usually. He makes it a point to tell everyone not to expect food, but he usually has time, and enjoys cooking. Good for a traveller on a budget.
Recommended for...
--Single travellers or anyone looking for a hostel with a homey feel. - Everyone has dinner together and the terrace always has someone on it so it is very easy to meet people.
--Anyone using Naples as a homebase for daytrips. Good info on how to get anywhere in the vicinity. Naples and Pompeii.
Not Recommende for...
--Someone who wants a party hostel. Generally everone is in bed by 12:00 to 1 in the morning. It is a residential area so he likes to keep it quiet late.
--Someone who can't stand smoking. Giovanni does smoke, a lot. It didn't bother me because it was mostly outside, but smoking is in the common area happens too.
--Someone who wants a modern hostel. This is not it although there are two computers w/ internet in the reception. (1.5 E per hour)

I personally had a great time at this hostel. The people were great and i felt like Giovanni really took care of us. I would stay here again on another trip to Naples.
