Washington DC on a whim
Yeah so I had planned on having a quiet weekend this past weekend, as I have been running around like a mad woman since I've been back, every weekend. I was planning a Guitar Hero and "Project Runway" marathon and not leaving the couch.
That was until my college roommate Barbie (who lives in Manhattan) tells me she has taken the Chinatown bus from NYC to DC to stay with our other old roommate, Alli. We were all originally supposed to meet up in Ohio this weekend but their flights got cancelled because of the bad weather.
So what do I do? Hop on I-95 Saturday morning like a madwoman. I leave at 8am and I am there exactly at noon. DC is a freaking 4 hour drive!!! I'm not sure if any of you know about my love affair with DC. It's worse than my love affair with Las Vegas.
Anyway I was up there Saturday and left Sunday night. Had ourselves a good little time. We went out to some oyster bar up at Dupont Circle which was amazing. Then went to this bar called Lucky Bar and it was pretty lame because there were a million people. Sunday we lazed around and I met an old friend from when we were at Ft. Huachuca together, she works at the Pentagon so I went down there and we lunched and I peaced out.
It was SO DAMN WINDY that the power was out partially where we got on the metro by Alli's place (at Ballston-MU on the orange line) and when we got in the metro we saw a guy dressed like Captain America and he had a huge skeleton with him so we got our picture with him cos that was awesome. I'll post it when Alli puts it on facebook.
The drive is so freaking easy and enjoyable I am coming up next weekend too, on my own. I know it's St. Paddy's day weekend so I'm sure it will be crazy, but really I am going to play DC tourist. I haven't done that in several years, so my goal is to hit up the tidal basin (never been in all the times I've been to DC), Holocaust museum (never been cos every time we've gone the wait was ridiculous), and the Smithsonian, and then just walking around like a moron.
Yay! I am so excited to find out how close I am! So, Jess and anyone else in the area who wants to meet up for coffee, dinner, drinks, whatev, I am down! :D
