OK this post has been festering inside of me for quite some time. Simply put I hate phoenix arizona. Sir Ed Abbey called phoenix "an ugly oasis in the middle of a beautiful wasteland." I'll give him that the desert is a wasteland. Vast and boring. Phoenix (other than parts around ASU) has nothing to far in the way of anything. Just heat and more heat. The only time to hike or bike is at night and then its a bit on the dark side. There are no smashing awesome clubs or hell anything at all... Just the theatres and honestly I am actually getting sick of seeing american media.
Honestly I believe that the Greater Phoenix Valley should turn into americas junkyard/trash hole. It's kind of already like that since more old people move here than anywhere else in the country. The colorado river no longer reaches the pacific largely due to phoenix. They are on what they call a nine-year drought and yet somehow they havent figured out yet that THIS IS A DESERT!!! AND IT ISNT SUPPOSED TO RAIN HERE!!!

Ok thats the first part. Second part.
The so-called friends that I have here are by far the most fickle people I have ever met anywhere in my travels or life for that matter. Quite frankly they stink. The past week I have turned my cell phone and finally today I turned it on and decided to go see a movie with them for no other reason than being bored off my gourd. I went to see Without a Paddle (which sadly was a movie whose funny parts were contained in the trailer) and got shafted 15 bones. Not a good thing this close to take-off. After the movie the guy that says im his best friend refused to give me my change MAN ALIVE! Anyway there was a part in the movie where Burt Reynolds character told the three guys to stop wasting their time with meaningless pursuits and three of the people i was with turned and looked at me. I MEAN F*N ASSHOLES! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! I can not wait to get out of this city and never spend any considerable amount of time here again.

Sorry for this post but thanks for listening.

P.S. My family moved here because my dad has a rare syndrome and in chicago he was getting surface blood clots and he has a prosthetic leg so the dryness is good for the stump. My parents love it. Go figure.

maybe with all that nothing to do around there u get
a) more money to saved (less to spend it on)
B) more incentive to get out of the hole
c) when u do leave u will appreciate all the wonderfull sites so much more.

last part reminds me when i went to the Gampians in victoria (australia) and we were climbing up this huge mountain, and we met this guy coming down who said "theres not much of a view at the top all u can see is a few fields" but we continued on and at the top was the most amazing view i've ever seen, u could see for miles and miles in about 270degrees.
Obviously he must have come from somewhere with really great scenery so he didn't appreciate what we had, i mean what do u expect to see from the top of a mountain thats in the middle of mainly pastural lad, skyscrapers?

Go down into the desert and be alone with nature.... Or up into the mountains in the north. My grandparents have lived in Mesa for 40 something years and I love to go stay with them.

I'm sorry...It sucks when you move to a place you hate.

I am assuming you can't move away, you're still at the ripe age where you are still finishin up high-school and you can't go on yet. Anyway, I was just there.

As soon as your done, go backpacking for like a year. Too hell with college you can do that next year. Rough it out a year and get random jobs to keep you alive while backpacking, than come home. You'll be a new man. That's my advice, but for now just wait it out and realize it only gets MUCH better.

Just save some money and up and move. I can't until I am done with school but a very close friend of mine did and now he lives in new york and is having a great time. It makes me want to drop out and move up there.

It has been raining here in the Valley of the Sun for a couple of days now and I am beginning to see the desert in a different light. It has a picteresque beauty to it that I am falling in love with.

Phoenix is still an ugly oasis but the sorrounding landscape is growing on me. Come one come all to my base of operations and I will show you a whole new world that I am re-discovering.

edited to add that I have a new group of friends and the ones that I previously mentioned earlier in this thread I have cut-off. the morons...

A change of buddies was definitely in order!

I lived there for 8 years... I enjoyed it, but it takes adjustment, for sure!
