San Diego this month, perhaps
So I came into some unexpected money (or will come into it this week), I'm completely out of credit card debt, and this mama is in need of a little R&R. I did just go to LA but that wasn't very relaxing because my mom was there and she wanted to see everything and we had a lot to do in a very short time.
I want to pass out on the beach and have a nice quiet long weekend, to be honest. It's much needed right now. I am considering San Diego because I did get a job offer out there last week for starting next August, on a permanent basis, so I want to go check it out and meet with them also.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for San Diego? Where to stay? My budget is a hostel unless I score something sweet on Hotwire or something. Ideally I would like something very quiet. I love the backpacker scene, but the hostel in Hollywood wore me out. Wondering if there's a cheap/low key B&B or something.
So, anything anyone might have would be much appreciated!

I stayed at a hostel in the gaslight district and it was a great area...I can't remember the name but it was probably the YHA affiliated one. Check out the zoo, make at least one meal an absurdly oversized sundae at Ghirardelli.
I dunno how convenient this would be to the beach though...

Yeah, I stayed in the Gaslamp district as well. It was an HI Hostel. Was super clean, only thing is that it is incredibly noisy at night because we were on the main road, clubbing etc....

The Gaslamp area is indeed verrry cool, but it might be a bit loud.... If you get lucky... Try to stay in the Pacific Beach or Mission Beach area. Fucking cool and laid back as hell. Feels perfectly Socal. And make sure you take a little trip to La Jolla. Next city up from P.B. It is absolutley beautiful.
Balboa park is fun and so is the San Diego Zoo.

Just got back from SD - I was actually staying up in La Jolla but took some time to drive down through PB and Missino Beach. Love that whole area. If you go to the little park at the southern end of LJ, get out, walk around, you can see a house on a corner that has an Emmy in the window. No lie. Its pretty funny.
(ignore the name of the link, it was just the starting address when I looked up the house)
