Default Honolulu & Boston - strange combo, I know

Hi All!

I am currently living in Australia with the Australian boyfriend and poor thing is getting dragged with me to Maine for a wedding. Anyway, since I am trying to make it more of a vacation than staying at my mom's in Michigan, I need a little help.

Honolulu,

We are doing a stop over here and I know nothing cool about the area. Obviously don't want to do the super touristy thing (yes, I know I will be in Hawaii) and I have no quams about renting a car. I know there are volcanoes and such but before I get confused by research, anyone been?

Boston,

Have one night one day there. I have only gone to Quincy markets there and crappily enough, there is no Red Sox games on when we are there. Any suggestions for something else to check out?

Any help would be ideal.

Thanks bunches!!

Hmm, about all I know to do in Boston is to walk around all the campus areas that are right together...Boston College, Harvard, MIT, etc.

i agree with the walking around boston thing, its a nice city to just wander in, i usually hit the market when im up there, other then that, i just basically walk until i find something, its a pretty small city and quite clean, rent some bikes on marthas vineyard, if you're looking for something just relaxing.

I figured maybe walking around would be the good idea too so thanks for confirming that in my head. Anyone have any ideas about Hawaii?

youth hostels on waikiki or rent a car and drive up to the hostels on the north shore. I've not been to the north shore but by all accounts, it's the shiznatty and the place to go.

The coolest thing about Honolulu in my opinion is the food! It's awesome. There are great Thai restaurants, shushi, shave ice, endless choices. (I like cooking and food tasting especially when I travel). I was there with my local and we hit up Diamond head to watch surfers (and surf, but just to the right because Diamond head surf is pretty good), and of course walk the Waikiki strip at night, that's a riot, and we went to Makapu'u (sp?) which is a beautiful beach with great surf just outside town. The north shore isn't too long a drive from the city, and is great to check out, but the good surf comes in the winter.
