Default USA Road Trip

So I am feeling a bit of travel withdrawl. Add in a bit of life's daily stresses. So yesterday I decided to take 2 weeks off of work to do a bit of a US Road trip. I am leaving March 24th and don't have to be in work again until April 8th. I also came across some tickets to Wrestlemania (Not as bad as Celine right?) so I decided to head down to Orlando for it.

All of my friends backed out on me so at this point it is just me (Which is probably for the better). I have done the drive down I95 before from Boston to Florida and it is not an exciting drive. Anyone have any suggestions on alternate routes and some cool and different places to stop at along the way? I have a week before the event and a week after.

Also anyone in the Orlando area or anywhere else have an interest in going to Wrestlemania? Like I said I have some extra tickets. While I would love to cover the cost of the tickets, they are already paid for so if you cant swing the dinero no biggie. I just don't want the tickets to go to waste.

It's pretty simple - anything EXCEPT interstates.
There's a wealth of different routes you could go so I'll leave it to others for suggestions...

If you're going to be in Orlando though, I highly recommend the Palm Lakefront Hostel.

Thanks for the hostel recommendation...It seemed to get mixed reviews on the different sites. Good to know someone who stayed there and had a good experience.

I would respond with helpful information but since you decided to compare Celine to "Wrestlemania", I am too stunned and offended to speak.

I agree whole-heartedly...how could you insult professional wrestlers so severely by comparing them to Celine??????

oh okay, Jamie's got jokes, I see how it is, okay that's cool.

forserious though, we've roadtripped down south and I must say there are some great scenic byways down there so try googling scenic byways, there's a whole website.

not so much in FL though, our escapades were more of the tennessee/alabama/louisana style, but try out alligator alley... I haven't been down there since high school but it was pretty cool when we went.

when I road trip, I literately get out one of those huge ass rand mcnally atlases and pick a few key places I want to stop (usually a big city I've never been to before, or go online to look for those weird ass roadside attrctions) and then just pick some random ass way to go. it's always interesting, no matter what.

edit: here's the scenic byway site http://www.byways.org/ and the stuff on FL http://www.byways.org/explore/states/FL/

A US road trip is on my list of things to do before I'm 30, sadly I'm running out of time so maybe next year!

Have a good one, you've got a seriously jealous guy here!

Thanks for the info. I take back what I said about Celine! I am working may way toward Florida but I can go anyway I want. I have been down 95 before so I want to try a new way. I have been considering going through Tennessee actually.

West Virginia, Virginia, the Carolinas & Eastern Tennessee are BEAUTIFUL! (I'm kinda partial to Eastern Tennessee.) Try a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway. http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/

There are some great places to hike & in Tennessee you can check out the Smokey mountains. Just remember...Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge are VERY, VERY touristy! But, if you're interested in that kind of thing, Dollywood is in Pigeon Forge.

The Natchez Trace Parkway through Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi is absolutely beautiful. That's not quite "on the way" to Florida, but if you're in TN, it is highly recommended.

I do have an east coast roadtrip thread up somewhere from last summer when we drove from maine to key west, although I don't remember if there's anything useful in it, lol. Shenandoah National Park is pretty, as Jen mentioned, although we got very lost on the Blue Ridge Parkway (it goes on forever!). We checked out the caves at Luray Caverns (spelling?) which were kind of fun.

Stayed at a couple of hostels in Florida although I think the one at Clearwater has closed...the one in Everglades city was a cool hippy place though! You should go skydiving over the Keys like I was supposed to do, but tropical storms get in the way.

I know people don't really think Kansas is happenin and you're right..it's not! But if you're ever driving thru the states you should at least drive thru Kansas (during the spring and summer) especially in the north-eastern part, it can be beautiful. And stop in Lawrence , it's the best most interesting city in this state
