I think the cheapest/most convenient public transportation method is probably the Air Train. If you have the cash to burn and or arrive late (I think I usually get into New York around 8-9 from Europe) you may want to fork out the money for a cab.
Btw Briley, nice way to spend NYE!

Thanks Joe!
My flight doesnt arrive until 11pm and its a nightmare getting through American immigration (2 and a half hours at JFK last time!). Just wondered if it is safe to get the train at that time, will be me and my Irish friend Marie (who btw is not the most savviest person at travelling and will speak to anyone - must be the irish in her lol!)

If your flight doesnt arrive until 11pm, then you won't be getting out of the airport and onto the sidewalk until probably 2am at the earliest. I don't even know if the train runs that late out of Newark! Have you already arranged your hotel and everything? Since you are probably going to have to stay in hotels anyway, I would maybe suggest staying at an airport hotel in Newark and then head into the city the next morning. Otherwise....ya. A cab.

Haha, the Irish rule. Yeah, even if the airtrain runs that late I would definitely try a cab because even though NY is a lot safer than it used to be Newark's reputation is still fairly well deserved and a cab to Manhattan, or, as Brooke suggested, an airport hotel is probably a good idea.
Please don't think immigration officials are at all representative of Americans in general

Hotel has already been booked. We were thinking of doing the shuttle bus, which is about $20 (i think) but i read on the tinternet that a cab might only be about $60.
Thanks for all the tips!
