My sister had a cool 4-runner with the removable top in Maui. It was a lot of fun. I can hardly fit in the newer 4-runner. The late 80's 4-runners are real cool.

1984 was the first year of the 4Runner LFOD. 1985 was the last year of the solid axle front end (a must for serious off-roading). 1990 was the first year of the 4-door model (mine) and marked the end for the old removable fiberglass top models. The more you know

The official Toyota Historian. I like it. My mom's had the fiberglass removable top but it never came off. I had a lot of fun in that truck.

$4K?
Well, you might want to get something with a trunk or hardtop for security - since you will probably be leaving all your gear in your ride a lot of the time.

Hey awesome help everyone. I also had a 80's toy ota pickup and it was great. So I think I am just going to go with that idea. I found one that I am going to take a look at with rebuild motor and tranny, new suspension, dual gas tanks, roof rack and a tricked out camper shell. I t was built for camping and it is priced exactly at 4k. So it must be destiny. i am looking on Sunday and I will post pics for you all if i get it. Such a sweet looking rig from the pics. :D

I've always wanted to buy a VW Vanagon Camper from eBay motors real cheap, switch out the engine and other mechanics that need it, add cruise control....oh yeah. These things, if totally loaded, have 2 beds, fridge, sink, and gas stove.

If you can track one down, there are Vanagons out there with Syncro, VW's early AWD/4WD system...
