Ok, have mentioned this on tpunka few times in various posts but i odnt think in the USA forum, which doesnt make sense haha anyways this sums it up without waffling on to much

me and my boyfriend

first backpacking trip

Starting florida

Finished Massachusetts

going for 80(ish) days - as long as it's undr 90 days we are cool.

Got a few things we want to do and places we want to go Everglades,boston, salem, miami, marthas vineyard, niragra falls etc

Leaving it mostly an open plan trip concerning dates so we are abl to change minds at last minute

camping when and where possible


and things we are into

Anything goes pretty much

Both will be over 21 so anythig alcohol induced is welcomed

we are much lovers of music rap/hiphip/rock/punk between us but appreciated other music so any local festival things going on

going from begining of august sometime

Love animals completely all aspects

like to do thigns liek maybe learn to scuba dive at least once

Um kinda thing I've summed it up!!

pretty much open to all

Not really people into sports but would both love to see an actual baseball game

Also prices and things are appreciated

the dates are kinda important, since you might be able to work around certain festivals (music/state fairs, etc) and see a real good slice of the local flavor... when are you looking at starting?

Additionally, if you are looking at driving it, a decent GPS would be a worthy investment. Something to help you get that much more lost ;)

Looking at begining of august, not sure on exact dates yet we are guna get last minute tickts

We will be bussing and training to places, we was gunna go for 12 mnths and drive everywhere, but this is our plan now.

I realaise that specific dates are kinda important if we want to see local shows/fesitvals etc but was just hinking if I knew when they where and where they where maybe cud work around it in some way

Trains run N-S along Amtrak and regional commuter lines from Maine to FLA but can get price prohibitive fast. Not sure about booking last minute train fare, but there is a travel pass available to international travelers. There's also a US/Canadian citizen pass, too. Southwest Airlines and Airtran are great for short hops. SWA flies into Providence, RI, Long Island (Islip), Baltimore (BWI), Nashville, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and tons of smaller airports along the coast. If you do 7-14 days in advance w/SWA, you usually pay around $50 pp for each hop. www.southwestairlines.com.

Airtran flies from Boston, Atlanta, Miami, and Dulles, (Washington, DC.)

The best way, still, IMO, is to rent a car and drive it. The US is really more of a driver's country than train or flying country. We do have the best laid-out highway system and there are tons of "scenic" routes to travel. You could shoot down Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Valley in the western part of Virginia, ride the Dragon's Back in North Carolina, etc etc. Or just roam down US Rt. 1 from NYC through PA, MD, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL and wind up in the Florida Keys.

Oh yeah, almost forgot-

August (especially late august) is the end of the music festival/concert summer in the Northeast. It also heads into fall, so expect to see the "colors" around October.

All the state fairs are usually the end of the month, as well, so plan on being somewhere southern to catch one ;)

We woudl love to drive. i say we, I cant drive so MATT would love to drive lol. but cant really afford to within teh short time we are staying and what not, we will one day do our 12 month road trip thing, something new for that adventure!!

What I meant is that for the longer hops, take a flight/train, but then rent a car once you get to your destination. Being able to see the fall colors up in New Hampshire or Vermont or upstate NY would be worth the $30/day or so.

I'm going to be in Florida for a week in September with my boyfriend before heading on the the West coast, and was also wondering about things to do. We're flying into Miami, but are open to staying in other places. Thinking of Fort Lauderdale, South Beach and the Everglades, but really not too sure!

Florida is a BIG state. There's tons to do in the southern part, around Miami, or into the Keys if you are adventurous. I've always wanted to fly into Miami, and rent a convertible and do A1A into the Keys.


Or you could head up north to Orlando and see The Mouse :D

if you and your boyfriend are going to be in salem, mass or boston let me know. i'm 2 miles from salem and 8 miles from boston proper and can recommend plenty to see/do/drink

oh and if you're going to see a baseball game, better see it at fenway park, home of the red sox

If you can get tickets! Hell, tons of Sox fans come down here to Baltimore because they can't get tickets at Fenway!!

(FTR: I've been fortunate in seeing a game there. Its among my favorite stadiums...)

I neglected to mention that I have done Salem for the Halloween season... its interesting to say the least. Ate at a nice chowder house in Gloucester, too... Definitely a few things to hit.

If you'll be passing by South Carolina deffinitely check out Charleston... it's a really beautiful city, lovely architecture and it's got a great insight into the United States' history (one-sided... hehe) but really impressive.

Joker was also looking forward to trains/buses because of the longer journeys, yes odd I know but Will be good, I have been on a niagra falls website and they do day trips on loadsa tours and tours which are about 4 hours and stuff which I cant wait to do,

We like alot of different stuff even if we try it once, deffo wanan go everglades though

Main reason for salem is the obvious we love spookmy stuff, supernatural and scary stuff. we are very open minded about this kinda thing, its wiked. Open minded about a fair bit of 'beliefs' and 'religion's

Got so much info on here to read up on, but keep it coming chaps love hearing it.

BTW - as far as flying Southwest Airlines up into the Mass area, Providence Rhode Island AND Manchester, NH are both Southwest serviced airports. Manchester is an hour north of Boston and would be a good airport to fly into and perhaps rent a car to sight see around NH, Maine, Mass. The states are small and many sites among the three can be seen easily in day trips. Beginning of October is generally fall foliage season in the area (the colors start earlier the farther North you go). Good luck! :cheers:

I'll follow this post later on with more suggestions...but in the meantime, I wanted to suggest Amtrak all the way. I would say that Amtrak is pretty much strongest in the northeast corridor. The unlimited passes available to international visitors (anyone outside of the US/Canada) are the best deal...because Amtrak runs so many places. You can take it throughout Florida and all the way north. Miami, FL. Orlando, FL. Atlanta, GA. Charleston, NC. Washington, DC. Baltimore, MD (home of several tpunks), New York, NY, New Haven, CT, Montreal, QC (site of several more tpunks), Boston, MA, Portland, ME...the list goes on and on. I'd definitely check out the Amtrak website Joker listed above for the pass.

I'll add to these suggestions later, when I'm not on my friend's computer. :D

niragra falls is a nice stop (that you mentioned), but can be a bit touristy, but still worth it. There is some great camping/hiking to be had in that area of the country as well. :cheers:

Yes we were planning on amtracking it all not flying.

Can you buy these unlimted passes before hand like on the internet? How would it go about me having the passes? them sending them to me in post to uk or printing confirmation out and giving it in when we get there.

i heard fort lauderdale is cheapest in florida to fly to, is this right does anyone know?
