thanks Jenny & Laura! my sister and I always try to do fun stuff, we didn't get along much growing up because we're like 2 days from being 10 years apart (her birthday is 2 days before mine, if you can believe that!) but now that we're older, we're pretty tight. we take random road trips, the college I used to go to had "lil' sibs weekend" which she always came to, and I decided to move back to Columbus mainly so she could stay with me on breaks and in the summer and stuff.
anyway thanks for the help everyone. I also read that in Paris, in the winter time, a lot of hotels have big discounts because they're trying to fill them. So I guess we shall see. I told her we can pick one and then decide to do the other when we get there if we want, doesn't really matter because I don't think finding vacancies in hostels will be a huge issue.
Also saw on Ryanair, flying from Paris to Madrid in February is like 40 euros round trip for 2 tix. I was trying to get a good idea of winter flight prices. Not too shabby! a lot cheaper than the eurostar, seriously. I think the eurostar was like 230 bucks for one person unless I was looking at the wrong one.

as an update to this topic, my mom and I discussed travel plans for my sister and I last night and it looks like she'll have some high school basketball tournament thing during that time, so I decided to be the bigger person and trade my trip to moscow for london & paris with her in september, so she won't get kicked off the team and could travel.
this means putting off moscow yet AGAIN, but it will work out. whether I go myself during christmas (can you say brrr?) or maybe using that as a staring point for my next big trip (next summer) and then build more around it (scandanavia, perhaps).
so, regardless of when moscow happens for me, my sister and I are going to london & paris (or london and somewhere else, who knows) in september. :D my mom is ready to book now, looks like it'll be cheaper to fly out of O'Hare (we've got fam in chicago, so we'll prolly just drive up the night before) to LHR. we;ll see. I think I am going to go for the US Airways mastercard now, cos I can get all these crazy bonus miles if I put both tix on there, and I can avoid the asinine APR if I pay it right off. shit maybe I can go to russia for free when I do go.
god I hope london/paris/wherever isn't rainy in september.

Once you get into England, it's a pretty cheap trip via Ryan Air to the mainland... Germany is actually great for travelling. And if you get really needy for Taco Bell... go to a base.

Oh Nic, Nic, Nic... England is so unpredictable weather-wise!! It could be glorious sunshine, it could be flooding. That's what I hate about living here!
It's so nice of you to put off your trip to Moscow. You'll have a wicked time in London, if you need any tips for day trips away from the city, or things to do, lemme know!

Props on taking your sis traveling. When I was a kid my Dad used to take me to Europe with him we'd go to Switzerland but usually ride through France and stop off.
My advice is, if you go to Paris from London see if you can fit in some of the north coast of France. The seafood is DELICIOUS seriously. I would recommend Cherbourg or Calais although Calais is a little touristy.

LOL I will be traveling with a 14 year old who has not really been anywhere... big trips to her were when we went to Disney World when she was 7 (vacation from hell, ps) and when we took her to Vegas in June, and I was so mad at her when we were in Vegas, where there are SOOOOO many amazing places to each and she was excited about the Chipotle on the strip. So I have a feeling if we see a Taco Bell, the begging will start hehe.
