Cool

Hello....
I am quite new to this site....I just discovered it 20 minutes ago. I am planning a trip to Europe in june and july of 2006...I will be starting essentially in Frankfurt (I am going to a convention with my dad in Bacharach but it's just a small town)...anyway...I am most likely going alone, though I have connections via my dad in France in perhaps in Italy. I am somewhat nervous about going alone, and wonder if anyone has any reccomendations about things to do, places to go, or anything else. I am open to going just about anywhere...At the end of my trip I will be heading to London, meeting up with my dad again as he does another convention...

Welcome to the boards.

I have not personally been to Europe so I can't help you on suggestions based on firsthand experience (other Tpunkers will be happy to oblige I'm sure )

However, I wouldn't sweat traveling solo. Its more of a misnomer I've heard. You can meet plenty of people in hostels and on the road so you're never really alone unless you choose to be.

Hopefully (by the grace of God lol) I will be going solo this summer and I'm not nervous. The best defense against nervousness and the like is knowledge, and you can gain plenty here at Tpunk.

WELCOME!!! Travelling solo can be fun. I'v done it around the states a little but I haven't travelled to Eu yet. I plan on going to the other side this year as well. Look at it this way, you can become friends with people on these boards and meet up with some of em' next year! You could fly it solo the rest of the time and enjoy your experience. There are so many people on T-punk that live in the Uk that I guarantee you would have a friend to share some time with.
Good luck with your travels and maybe we'll see each other there.
Ya never know.

You see that (all of you lurkers out there)?! Just jump right in and join the family, like Mango here! Don't even sweat it...

Like the others said, traveling sole is not as daunting as it might seem. As long as you stay open to meeting people, as you go, you'll make new friends all over the place.
It might take you a few days to get into the groove, but you'll get there...

In the meantime, make yourself comfortable on these boards. You'll become a seasoned traveler before you even step on the plane !

Welcome to the boards !

As far as places to go, I always make two recommendations to people going to Europe. Everyone is different though, so you look into it a little to see if you think they sound like places you would like. Cinque Terra, Italy and Prague, Czech Republic. My two favorites. Poke around on the boards for info, or do some internet searches.

Mango, i will be in Europe in July 2006, but not sure exactly where. I might be travelling alone or might find someone else to tag along. Maybe we could meet up. I guess we got sometime before we figure that out.

I went to Italy and greece, and paris, last summer. Here are some spots to hit, I will just rank the cities that I went to...

I was more of a tourist and not a bar hopper last summer....

1: Rome. so much history and so much to do.
2: Venice. Gorgeous city and I stayed at an awsome campsite for cheap. Good bar there
3: Paris. THe louve is a must when your in Europe I think
4: Mykonos: Greek islands, not much else to say about that. Great nightlife
5: Florence: Not as fun as a thought, but I got lost in the rain for an hour with no map
6: Athens: dirty, but some good history lessons, I LOVE GYROS

Let me know if you have anyother questions about Italy, or getting around the country. GOod luck, and welcome

Thats no joke. I was prepared for evey single backpacking detail before I went this summer. Just read other threads, ask questions and have fun. If you have any travel question at all, I can personally PROMISE you that Travelpunk.com has the answer. Just make sure you check read other peoples threads and question. Most of the time the same general questions are asked half a dozen times a month.

and Welcome the Boards

I would be more than happy to meet up with anyone (well....not anyone....hmmm) but probably anyone on this site. I am thinking about staying mainly in Italy and France...I have family friends in Aix-en-Provence who I will stay with for a while. During the beginning of the trip I will be traveling with my dad...we're venturing to Amsterdam (what could my dad possibly want to do there?? haha) and later we will make our way (hopefully via car) to Bacharach in Germany where my dad has a tiny convention of sorts. Then.....off to Provence with friends....then solo. I am considering Cinque Terra, Pordenone (b/c of family history), venice, milan perhaps, paris (if the rioting stops heh) and anywhere else....I would like to go to Prague, but I might just have to visit there another time. At the end I will be travelling to the UK before heading home. I am basically up for anything...
