I have been heavy into traveling for the past couple years now and I love it, the only thing that seems to bother me is that I always have to go by myself. My question is how many others out there travel alone the majority of the time, what do you do and do you meet others to hang out with them or stick by yourself. I tend to stick alone but am actually quite shy so its more difficult for me, I was just wondering the experiences others had if they travel like I do.

I always travel solo and used to be shy myself. I then realized that if I want to meet new friends it was up to me to initiate the process. It is as sample as striking up conversaiton with someone and asking where they are from and going from there. It is hard at first but you get used to it the more you do it. Traveling is about thinking and doing outside the box. So suck it up and just try it. You WILL be suprised.

Yeah, solo is a good thing, not a handicap. On many occasions I've ended up walking around foreign cities with groups of beautiful girls simply because I was friendly and confident. Of course, other times I've been shot down for no apparant reason, but if it was always easy, what fun would it be?

Going solo's awesome...I'm kind of a mixture. I'm not necessarily "shy" but I guess you could say, I'm comfortable with being alone. I'm the type of person who likes to sit back and just take in my surroundings, but at the same time I try to force myself to be incredibly forward & introduce myself to everyone while traveling because I don't want to fall into the trap of letting myself be alone for my entire trip because that could get really boring really fast. But I dunno, it's really easy to meet people while abroad because everybody's trying to meet people, so I don't really find it too difficult...

Oh I'm definatly the type of person that could go the entire trip without talking to someone and even realizing it....I guess I will just have to get over my social anxieties and jus start talking to ppl, I'm heading to Thailand and Indonesia on my next trip anyone have any suggestions of places to go?

I met more people when I was away by myself than when I went away with other people. When you travel by yourself you have to make the effort but when your with your mates you dont need to bother so much.

I was shy on my first night traveling by myself and was thinking "what am i doing?" but after a few beers it was easy. Then i met a certain someone on my 2nd night.
