Hiya
I am making my first solo trip to Thailand in April for two weeks, I will be flying in with a friend but were going to part ways after weve seen Bangkok.. She's going North & I'm heading South you see  What are the chances of me meeting someone/people who want to go to the same places as me? Ive got a rough itinary.. should I try and find a travel buddy before I take the train or hope i meet someone en route? Or should I play little miss independant and just do it all alone without the intension of joinig someone elses trip! :unsure2: |
start independent and see what happens...you may just end up joining someone else!
either way, good luck! |
South East Asia and especially Thailand is bakcpackers' paradise ! Chances are you'll meet lots of people heading south. And to travel alone is also very easy. So play fate and don't arrange anything before arrival... :wizard:

I absolutely agree with Atchoum. You will meet tons of people to hang out with. Just play it by ear. If you click with someone or multiple someone's in BKK and you all want to head south together, cool. If not, I can assure you you will meet plenty more people down south as well. Thailand is one place that you absolutely cannot help but meet people. Just keep an open mind, no expectations and see what happens. Enjoy the trip. Thailand is one of my absolute favorite countries and if all goes well, I will be there next month!

 thanks for the advice guys thats great!
So as long as i have a rough idea of where i want to visit, then i can play it by ear and tag along with others as i bump into them... ooh I hope they like me! Wheres the best place to meet other packers, it it mainly the hostel bars? or on transport you think? Is there a main chat up line eveyone uses? hehe |
You will meet people everywhere. In the hostel bar, your hostel roomate, on various excursions, such as a dive boat, you might meet them on the bus, at a historic site. It's not like being back in your home country. You will quickly come to recognize the 'look' of a single traveler as well. No chat-up line needed...the good ole "Where you from" will work just fine more often than not. Khao San Rd in particular is like the cross-roads of the world where if you stand on the street corner for 10 minutes you could literally see 50 different nationalities pass by in that short period of time (and you probably think I am exaggerating).
