I am going to Europe next summer, most likely alone. The problem is I have no clue where I want to go yet. I can fly into either Dublin, London, or Paris. I was thinking of just flying to London, then maybe going to Liverpool or Manchester, then probably Edinburg. I really want o go to Amsterdam though but cost is an issue and after my flight I will have only about $500 for between one and two weeks. What should I do?

Hey Christian, Don't fret about your cash flow situation, you can pull it off!!!

There are a couple of things you need to know though:

London and Paris are 2 of the most expencive cities in Europe, this cost of living and traveling can really set you back. With 500$ you could pull off prob one of those cities but because of the cost of transport between them, you might find it hard to do both. BUT if you can get a sweet deal from:

Ryanair.com
BMIbaby.com
Easyjet.com

You could end up getting to where you wanna go with very little cost. If your not picky about when you fly you could pay nothing, and just pay the tax.

If you would like a suggestion, fly into Amsterdam and travel by train to Paris, then you might be able to afford to hit Luxembourg and some border towns in Germany, then make you way back through Belgium and take the ferry to Dover and into London, flying out from there. It will not be an easy task with the amount of funds you have...but being frugle will make it happen.

Try and hook up with some locals and if you lucky that would cover some nights of lodging and some meals...and if you feel safe to hitch hike then that would save you costs on transport. The hitch hiking thing is risky and not what it used to be back in the 70's, but some peps still do it.

One thing to remember is to try have a credit card available to you if you run into an emergency.

thanks for the info...the more i have thought about it though i think that it would be best for me to stay in one country, especially one that speaks english for my first trip. i was thinking of buying the rail pass that allows 4 days of travel throughout britian, but i don't know if these have to take place on consecutive days. if not where would u recomend to go....as i told you im on a budget so in london i want to do things like the british museum and other free sightseeing...i want to hit up one of the cities in scotland too, so if i have a couple of more stops were should i go....i like to drink so i need somewhere with cheap beer and maybe a strip club for me to get out of control one night.......any info would be deeply appreciated......thanks

Thats a good idea, staying in the UK leaves you open for alot more to see on your limited budget...

II don't know how long you will go for, but here are my picks for cities to visit:

London
Edinbough
Belfast
and as many small towns as time allows ( for your cheap beer)

Call your airline and see if you can arrive in one city and depart from another, that will save you from back tracking and in the long run a little money.

As for strip clubs, (classic request! ) here is a link for a few through out the UK

I am living in Dublin, but I will be traveling to London in the middle of the summer. Stay in touch if you want to meet up for some beers.
Oh yeah, ps....keep up with the exchange rate bc the american dollar is worth less than the Euro.

I remember from when i was in the UK that if u buy a train ticket say london to birmingham u have 24 hours from when u start you journey to finish it (but check with the friendly train staff incase they've changed things in the last 2 years)
So if u leave in the morning , you can break your journey along the way and spend a day in whereever before hopping on another train to your final destination.
some tickets have cettain limitis on them ( i.e. youre not allowed to go north of birmingham)
also i recall that a return ticket (slightly more than a single) the second leg has to be used within 30 days of purchase, so that might work out fairly cheap.
