So, I'm leaving on a certain date, but I really don't know when I'm coming back. Ideally, I'd like to buy a one way ticket, but I know there are problems with that. Has anyone bought a one way ticket to Europe (most likely Spain or Germany) or does anyone know how to make it work? Specifics would be nice because I'be already been told the vague stuff like you have to prove that you can afford the return ticket, but anything would help.
Thanks

Frequently, but not always, it ends up being cheaper if you buy a r/t ticket and don't take the return flight. Beyond that I'm not really of any help to you. Oh, and I know that in a lot of cases, immigration officials tend to get twitchy if you don't have a scheduled return flight. Just an FYI.

This is true, except in my case there is a good chance that I won't return within 365 days. That is the limit, from what I've seen, to how much you can push a ticket back. Other than that, how could it be cheaper? If I were to pay 500 for a r/t and not take the return, then I would pay another 300 or so for a one way back to the states. That's at least 800 total. I've found one way for about 300, so that's about a 200 savings.

^ Ah, okay. Anytime I've ever looked into booking a one-way ticket it's always been (inexplicably) way more expensive than round-trip.

Yeah, I've seen that too, but I think that's related to the .com services. Real ticket prices are cheaper one way.

We flew into Ireland on a OW ticket (240$) then took Ryanair to Frankfurt/Hahn (like $30). No questions, they just asked how long we were staying in Ireland. So, yes, it's very possible. We booked through Aer Lingus and they have it set up so you pick your flight there and return ticket (if you're getting a return), so it's already split up. Does that make sense?

I think that makes sense, but I don't know when I will be returning. Maybe in 4 months maybe in 4 years.

Oh that's the beauty. We didn't book our return through them - they just had it set up that way. We booked our return when we were ready to come back.

STA Travel often has one way tickets for Europe at a very good price that don't necessarily appears on their site. Give them a call !

What's the date you're leaving?
I'm worried about the same thing- I've only got a one way, I'm thinking of getting a return flight.. because I do hear that it can be trouble...

Where are you flying into Thresheld? My advice - if nothing else, have a ticket via Ryanair or some inexpensive airline. I belive the main thing they're worried about is you staying in their country to mooch of their government. Also, if you can, bring a bank statement.
Again, we flew into Dublin on a one way (no return ticket) and weren't even looked at twice. They didn't even ask about a ticket or anything.

I'm flying into London, but I'm probably not going to be staying there for but a few days.
