Going to America in August from England and would like to start in Florida, I know the flights will be pretty heft if i got one straight to Orlando as it is a most popular place. Any places in Florida which would cheapen my flight by a few quid. We want to go all over florida so don't mind where abouts.

Cheers

My guess would be Miami (my home city!) as it is a huge air transportation hub but I could be wrong.

There is an airline (can't think of the name at the moment) that is offering cheap flights within FL (similar to RyanAir in Europe) going to all the major tourist cities.

FYI - Adjacent to Miami Int'l Airport they are building a large city transportation hub which will include the metrorail and people movers, city buses, greyhound buses, and the like. I don't know if it will be completed while you are there.

Well, I will tell you this about MIA (miami int'l)

1. It is an American Airlines hub. So much so that American practically runs the airport. So, if you fly on them in it'll likely be cheaper (or more, depending on your original airport.) But this is good if you fly British Air, Aer Lingus, or any of the OneWorld codeshare partners.

2. Do NOT EAT AT LA CARRETA CUBAN RESTAURANT NEXT TO THE AMERICAN TICKET COUNTERS AT GATE B!!!

I got the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had there. Seriously, avoid it like the plague! :D

Other than that, Miami would be a good place to touch down, but like much of the East Coast, it'll be a little pricey. You may wanna check out NYC initially, since most major international carriers will fly to either JFK or Newark...

i would start in NYC by flying into EWR (newark), or JFK and work your way south. you can find flights from EWR to anywhere in florida for $69.

Miami and Orlando are pretty much the international gateways for Florida. Once you're there, you can get cheap flights out of Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa, as Southwest operates out of those cities...

Personally, I'd avoid Florida altogether

Cheers for all your replies, guys what i'll have to do is spend some time on some airlines websites getting some quiotes tos ee where is the cheapest to fly from here and fly to over there, will take all into account.

I know a few people have said they would avoid florida but it is somewhere I loved before and there are still things I would like to do and would like to be there.
Not intending on flying inside USA, will get busses or what not. all part of the fun and adventure in my eyes
Will let you know how I get on with the prices though

I second that. I ate at La Carretta once and I left with the worst headache ever and general sick feelings. Never been back.

Try Pollo Tropical. Yummy! You can't miss it. They're a chain (owned by Burger King FYI) all over South Florida. My favorite there is the plantains.

Definitly Miami

Plus, if you fly into Orlando you have a hike to get anywhere else. I am 2 hours north in a drunken college town so i know it all. If you go to Miami you can go to South Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, The Keys, etc. If you go to Orlando you can take 2 hours to go to Tampa or 4 hours to go to Jacksonville, and that is not by bus...

Best of luck, FLA is awesome
