Anyone know if there are any trains that cross the UK (England-Scotland, specifically)? The TGV is where? *sigh* I forget too much. But I'm not really thinking TGV style trains, I'm wondering if there are any old-style ones still about. The ones with where you get a booth with a table and the train is on Tracks..yeah tracks you know clickity-click makes the train shake side to side, used to watch saftey films about how not to play on them..tracks.

Sorry just ranting. Stupid sky-trains... :crybaby:

Oh they still have clikity clak trains in canada? hehe sorry, j/k.

From what I read they must. Since they seem to have normal, fast, and ultra fast in a lot of places.

Amtrak here in the U.S. goes clikity clak, or clickity click. Although they don't go woo woo anymore, or make the choo choo noise. From what I read about Albania, they have some really old fashioned trains, like no windows or rest rooms. Well just thought I should comment on the trains.

Did you ever put the penny on the train track?

LOL good sounds. Well I should talk. Faith restored! I think they ought to. At least they better.
Nope never put a penny on the tracks THAT'S ILLEGAL :o
As to pennies: There's cargo trains all over the place, ones on tracks, clickety clak clickety click. One on the other side of this tiny narrow valley of mine, I can see it out of my window...o! there it is!...and we have so many hollowed out pennies around they aren't a special sight.

China and Cuba are 2 of the last countries to use steam locomotives in everyday use...most others are for tourist reasons

But there are referbished and replica trips available in Europe, one of the most popular is in Switzerland,
check out the Furka CogWheel Steam Railway, I was in that area with a bunch of Aussies who has never seen snow, so they went on this train ride.l..I have seen TOO MUCH snow, so I stayed, They loved every minute of it!!!

Here are a couple of links for locomotives in the UK:

Churnet-Valley Railway England

Chinnor and Princes Railway ( Only 7 miles round trip) England

Central Scotland's Steam Railway by the Firth of Forth

Now these train rides are catered to tourists who want to have an ol' time train ride, so they are prob short trips, but email the company to find out for sure.

What a way to see Europe though!!

In Bulgaria, those old trains are one of the main means of transportation. You get the real train station, booth and the noise, a really slow ride that lets you enjoy the view, and the narrow passeway where only one person can walk sideways...I also found out there is always a drunk guy disturbing everyone in the train...I even met a russian that could speak french and had been a legionnary! Vodka camarade!!!

Thanks guys, and CD I'll definatly have to email these train people.
It's a long shot, but I was thinking to lower the cost of airfare to drive to seattle, catch a plane to London or Glascow, London perferrably, and work my way up through England, into Scotland (unless I'm already there), and then catch a ferry to Ireland...
And thats why I was wondering about the trains :D

If your just looking for regular train service throughout the UK, you can get a BritRail Pass.

Trains are very popular for getting around the UK, but Air Travel is becoming very cheap aswell, the compition is mad over there, so there a great deals all the time...but to take Air all t the time wioll result in missing some great scenery
