these are the plans i have for this february: i'm going to be flying into dublin, take a ferry to holyhead, wales, stay in bangor, wales, then stay in chester, england, and then go to london.

i planned it this way because, according to guidebooks, it seemed like it would be very possible to travel directly from each place to the next, but i'm lost on how to go about getting train or bus tickets from one place to the next. should i wait until i'm in each town to buy my ticket out? or is it possible to do so on the internet while in north america? i haven't found anything on google to suggest that it is. is it possible that i'll wait until i'm there only to find out every train/ bus is full, or am i being paranoid?

Welcome! :)

Bus: http://www.nationalexpress.com There are others but that's one I've used that's very reliable-- and you can get cheap 1GBP fares online sometimes.

Train: http://www.qjump.co.uk I'm pretty sure that's the main booking site for trains, but there may be others.

to be honest i wouldnt bother staying in chester...great day trip from liverpool though, you should definately come and try and make it here. If you dont fancy getting the ferry over from Dublin check out air companies sucha as AerLingus; Ryanair etc who all fly from Dublin in to Liverpool and London

It may be worth changing your route slightly as you may be surprised how cheap flying with a budget airline like Ryanaircan be from Dublin to Liverpool..

But if you dont want to change your flight, then for the route youve chosen, for the short distances i dont think its necessary to book your train tickets in advance. For the journey from Chester to London though the price sometimes triples if you leave it to the last minute, this maybe worth looking into see www.thetrainline.com

Chesters a beautiful place and defo worth a wonder around,

You can have an option to pick up tickets from the train station, I know you can do this at Manchester train station not 100% sure from chester tho!

hope this has helped!

thats really good advice i would def recomend buying ur ticket in advance on thetrainline.com u can save a forune on there. Chester is an awesome walled city aswell, full of roman ruins with an ampetheatre. well worth the visit. if your staying in bangor for a while its also worth trying to get into the snowdonia mountain range, they are beautiful.

as a foot pax u shud also be able to get a crossing from dublin from around £15
