Thumbs up

What's up,

Has anyone traveled around England? I want to know how long it will take to travel between some of the cities, i.e. oxford, cambridge, stratford upon avon, stonehenge..etc, but I haven't been able to find any bus or train services with timetables. Does anyone recommend any websites or certain bus services? I'll only have a couple days to visit the smaller cities, so want to maximize my time. Cheers.

National Express all the way, dude. The buses (coaches actually is how they're referred to) are nicely maintained. Tickets can be DIRT CHEAP, especially if you book online! England isn't all that big so it doesn't take a million years to get around.

The train is nice too but it's a much more expensive way to go and it takes about the same amount of time as the coach. *shrug*

Red face

hah. i travel every country drunk..

thanks for the website. though it says for the points to points i was looking at: "We can only offer journeys on this route if they are part of a longer journey." i guess i'll have to give them a call unless someone knows something better what i should do in this situation. also I didn't see stratford upon avon or stonehenge on that bus's 'to' 'from' list. any idea? thanks.

Ok i assume that u wont have much trouble with Oxford and Cambridge being fairly large towns.

In regards to stone henge, if you are going for the stones u may want to consider Avesbury which has a village in the middle of the henge instead. (big plus is its free to walk amoung the stones) (Swindon is the nearest train station and then a bus )

for rail try http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/planmyjourne...9_2005624142147

and put in start and end and it will tell u how long it takes and what trains to catch. I find it alot easier to use than the bus, but it depends on how many changes u need to make for each journey.
If u were to travel from Cambridge to Stratford upon avon by train would take about 4 hours but u need to go via Birmingham or london.

To get to stonehenge, Salisbury is the nearest train station and i'm not sure but its pretty likely there will be buses from there.
Try
http://www.stonehenge.org.uk/trans/howto.shtml

for info on how to get there.
