I've heard that one of the downsides to the discount airlines such as easyjet is that it can be difficult to get to the non-heathrow airports that they all fly out of. Is this true? It doesn't look like there's a tube stop at any of them. Any advice?

They tend to be well outside the city, so they're not serviced by tube, except for London City. However, you can take the tube to the corresponding train stations for each one of these:

Stanstead Express (Liverpool Street)
Luton Airport Train (King's Cross)
London City Airport (Jubilee Line Tube or Docklands Light Rail)
Gatwick Express (London Victoria)

Also try taking a coach! National Express has tons of departures to Stansted, Luton, Gatwick and Heathrow all day for cheap. It doesn't take too long to get there, and it's waaay less than the "express" trains!

I just wanted to see if I was reading this right. Gatwick airport is 5 hours outside of central London? That almost defeats the purpose of flying from there.

Nooo... Gatwick isn't that far from london - 40 min, tops, I think - it's just that you have to give yourself plenty of time transfering between airports.

Yeah, Brighton's nowhere NEAR London... it's down on the southern end, on the Channel. Weird.
