Ok when you buy a rail pass say for 10 days for specific countries. Do you have 10 days to use it or does each time you travel count as a day? For example if I bought a 10 day railpass for italy and france and say I stayed in rome for 3 days and never used the train...is that still 3 days off my pass or does it only deduct a day if I used the train? Thanks guys.. Luke

Well this depends on your type of pass. I found a nice guide online from ricksteves (it says 2004 but the basic info has not changed). It tells you all of the different passts and how they work. It also has a REALLY nice map that has costs and travel times for point to point tickets. I used to plan out my night trains ($20 couchette = no hostel). Here is the link:

Hope this helps!

No problem! I would also pick up a copy of Rick Steve's Europe throught he Back Door 2005. He has a lot of good info in there that saves money, time, weight, and a great section on rail passes. If you get your rail pass from his site (which is the same price as anywhere else) you get a lot of free stuff with it as well as 20% of in his travel store. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
