My girlfriend and I are planning on interrailing through italy, greece and turkey in august. We have been trying to find out if it's possible to fly back from turkey to italy for reasonable enough prices at the end of the the three weeks in order to get our connection flight back home(ireland) but we're getting quoted ridiculous prices. What amount of travelling time would we need to set aside to travel from turkey back to italy by train or would this involve too much travelling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Was thinking of starting in italy on 31stjuly spending about a week travelling about the place, then going to greece for 4/5 days and then going to turkey for about 4/5 days. Thinking of flying back from somewhere in south of italy around 20th aug. Then would like to travel back to italy bearing in mind that we would like to spend some time in some quiet towns/villages along the way. would this be possible to do or is there too much travelling involved

What are the dates you wanna fly from Turrkey to Italy? Most search egines require exact dates. And if it could be done would you fly from Turkey right to Ireland?

Would like to be flying home on the 21st august. I would fly straight to ireland if it could be arranged but ive been quoted ridiculous prices. We don't mind travelling back to italy through greece and getting a plane from there(probably bari or somewhere in the south) but don't want to be spending the last couple of days travelling constantly. If it could be done in 3/4 days at a relaxed enough pace(i.e a few stops here and there) that would be excellant but I can't get any details/advice on travelling schedules.

I can not find anything on how long a train will take from Turkey to Italy?? But if your holding an interail pass...but an interesting way to get back to Italy might be to take a Ferry Service
If you carry a "G" Zone pass some ferries are free, so check into that. I will keep checking for flights as soon as I have da dates

Do u mean what date would i like to be leaving turkey or what date we would be flying home from italy. The ferries don't look too bad, might be worth checking out. As for flying back from turkey, probably 19th aug, as we were looking to fly home on the 21st. I think both of us would prefer not to have to fly from turkey to italy. Would you advise not spending that much time in greece due to the olympics, cos if we only spend a day or two in greece and then go onto turkey for 5/6 days that should leave us enough time to travel back at an easy enough pace so if we wanted to spend a night or two somewhere along the way we would be able to.

By the way way thanks for your help

While I think it would be cool to be in Greece during the Olympics, you can expect costs for food and lodging to go through the room, if your on a tight budget Greece might best be avoided.

I think you should take the train, again if you carry the "G" zone interail pass it covers you for the whole trip it looks like. To get confirmation you might have to get in touch withINTERRAIL at

And I have to say, there does not seem to be too many budget flights in or out of Turkey...

I don't know if this has helped much, but i hope it did help some...
