London to/from Sydney by bus

I was joking that I might try to get back home without catching any plans... but you can actually do it!

http://www.oz-bus.com/index.html
20 countries, 12 weeks, 3750 pounds/$AU9000

ENGLAND - FRANCE - GERMANY - CZECH REPUBLIC - AUSTRIA - HUNGARY- ROMANIA - BULGARIA - TURKEY - IRAN - PAKISTAN - INDIA - NEPAL - CHINA - LAOS - THAILAND - MALAYSIA - INDONESIA - EAST TIMOR - AUSTRALIA

I probably wouldn't *actually* do this... but gosh, what an amusing and exciting idea!

If I had the money, desire, and time I would give it a go. I would take at least a year to do it tho so I could see all the cool stuff along the way.

You do fly some parts of the itinerary, but that's still pretty neat! One of these days, I'm interested in traveling around Asia as much as I can by rail (especially the Trans-Siberian).

when i was a kid i always used to look at world maps and plan out trips like this - one of mine was to go from singapore to south africa. lol i should do it someday. its cool to see a london to sydney trip though

freespiritz 03-25-2007 10:47 PM

Looks fun, although...as has been said, I'd like to take at least a year on such a trip.

I think we've all plotted out something of the sort - mine was a Portugal back to Malaysia thing! :p

This looks very interesting. Only negative is it would seem 99% of the time is spent driving, instead of seeing the areas.

It makes me tired just looking at it

buzzingtalk 03-26-2007 06:07 AM

I know that it takes about 4-6 weeks driving from london to singapore, doing i guess 6-8 hours a day possibly, so not much time is spent on seeing things really.

this is something id love to do though, at least london-KL. ive been considering it for a few years now, i'd probably do it from kl back to london though, would work out much much cheaper (petrol/car) id like to take a few years to do it and it wouldnt be a straigh through route!

i wouldnt mind doing it on a big coach as long as it had beds on it, you could do the boring driving bits overnight, and stay places in the day.

That's the best group tour ever ! Accomodation is camping out with the others or when around large cities, hotels. I love the idea, half adventure, half comfort of organized activities.

I too though would rather spend a year doing this, but I guess very few people can afford the luxuary of taking a such a long time off.

I'm down, we'll steal my family's car and head out from KL. ;)

that amount of time on a bus would kill me.... just kill me!

yeah thats the spirit!! is it a proton???

but seriously though, i will be doing this in a few years, blatently. it would be the best road trip in the world, EVER. true story. and of course there would be space so people can jump in if you happen to be in KL or along me route!!

freespiritz 03-27-2007 09:07 AM

we do have a little proton saga and a toyota, although my parents would never let me take the toyota. I say we buy a Kancil and go...can you see us driving across the world in one of those? Malaysia boleh!

Anyway, you'll have to keep me updated on this, and I might just have to tag along. ;)

haha i think we'd get aobut 300KM up the federal highway before we broke down  but it is a thing I am fairly serious about - I'm getting my drivers license this year, and will be well practiced on driving in KL too by the time I do it!! I think it would be an excellent road trip!! so many lovely places to pass through - just have to find the right car :)

Definitely sounds like an adventure... but as with everyone else ... I agree plenty of time should be taken to see everything. Although I guess this would be a nice overview... then go back and see the things you like in more detail later.

Reminds me of my ideas of a tip to tip Americas drive. :)

Depends, from Key West to Alaska or Maine SoCal? :p

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...=1&sa=N&tab=wl

It says 2 days but that is ambitious. At an average speed of 60mph it takes 54 hours. So with 9 hours of driving per day you can do it in a mere 6 days.

Tip to tip Americas... not US... Say Anchorage Alaska to the southern tip of Chile. A true adventure. I would bank on a good amount of time to do some sightseeing.
